Hey guys, massive three points from Montreal today....if we could manage to squeeze out another three points, or a draw, this weekend....we could be in much safer territory heading into our road trip.

anyways, i hope Steele will be back.

alright about the section! i think that EVERYONE should try and bring at least one person to the Depot for the final home game..... with school starting this week, guys my age should have no problem getting a few friends to come to the game....Also, since the club is out of funds for the year, i think everyone should make an honest effort to bring as many ORANGE/WHITE streamers as you can....ive gotten about 35 for the game, but it would be awesome of we could get a hundred or so...
On another note, i wasnt wearing orange tonight since i didnt have time to change...at 5:45 i realized the game was at 6 instead of 7:30! so i just jumped in the car and came. But EVERYONE who comes this weekend, including the people you bring, should try and wear Orange...

It would be really nice to have a full section of people who actually cheer, instead of fans who bought tickets for ANY section and moved to the sides when they found out that we are loud all game...An all orange section looks good! just look at El Battalon and the Texian Army of the Dynamo...

Oh and Mickey's Bandero was awesome tonight....he really did a great job on it. :)

anyways if nothing else, just show up this weekend and cheer on our Hawks to the Playoffs!

Don't you mean "last home game until the playoffs" :)

I agree with everything that Brandon said. I really want to see some more of our regulars that have been missing lately...Clint, Eric, Ryan, etc. I'm calling you out! :)

Also Giant Tailgating festivities?

Like the first game we should have the grill (if thats not asking too much Jarrett from the already full Mini), food drinks etc.

One last huzzah before playoffs.

...Clint, ... I'm calling you out! :)

I'm calling myself out. The scheduling computer has it out for me and I got clobbered, again, by the start of the semester.

I'm in Chicago this weekend but will be back for the playoffs (the only time that really counts).

Kristin and I should be there this weekend. We will try to bring a couple people with us. Jarrett, if you need help getting anything to the game, grill or whatever, let us know. We should be able to swing by and haul some stuff.

Looks like me and my friend are going to make the drive. The only possible hitch is if I need to get work done over the weekend, although I doubt I will need to do so.

Lets get sloshed!

There is one major problem. It is the opening weekend for college football season and NC State has a 6:30pm game. I am not sure about Duke, UNC, and ECU though. My guess is some of them will play at night too. I wish the league, or team could move it to Friday because no one is going to be there.:( I'll be at the State game myself.

Screw that...the "real" fans will be at SAS that night to see our lads fighting for the playoffs rather than watch a meaningless non-conference, early season college football snoozefest.

I bet you two rounds from the beer stand there are 5000+ at SAS that night.

Dude, let's be a little more realistic. The RailHawks are an extremely new professional soccer team in an area completely dominated by college athletics. If people aren't actually at games, they'll probably be watching them on tv.

And to tell you the truth, I'm pretty sure most of the 10 year old kids running around and their moms at SAS don't have a clue how close we are to the playoffs.

Does that mean you're taking my bet? Two beers if the announced attendance on Sept 1st is over 5000?

aimorris

I don't really care what the announced attendance is or what it actually is...

I was referring to your "real" fans comment and your reference to people caring about a race for the playoffs more than a season opening football game.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who like more sports than just soccer. And NC State, Duke, ECU, UNC, etc. have been around a lot longer than the Carolina RailHawks. I don't know where I'll be Saturday night yet (I might actually be in Greensboro refereeing a tournament) but if I end up at Carter Finley instead of SAS doesn't make me any less of a "real" fan.

i think he meant "real" railhawks fans....in which case it does make you less of a fan...because when YOU know how close they are to the playoffs, yet you choose to go to Carter Finley instead....and thats fine, im not saying it isnt. Im not saying you are any less of a real SOCCER fan, but maybe not as much of a Railhawk fan as some others...But again, i think he means "real" Railhawk fans....which there really arent that many yet i dont think, as you pointed out...College sport teams have been around forever, and the Rhawks, just this season.

haha, brilliant. Thanks for putting me in my place, maybe if I had only spent more time throwing around streamers and banging on a drum...

I thought for a bit to go to the UNC v. James Madison football game.

Then I came to my senses.

This soccer match is bigger than the season opener of college football. At least for me it is. If it was a midseason Railhawk match vs. the season opener for UNC, I might go to UNC football match, but it isn't.

C'mon, the "real" fans dig was a joke guys, get a sense of humor. I thought we were all friends here. I should have used some smiley faces. If you weren't a "real" soccer fan, you wouldn't be wasting countless hours of your life here on BigSoccer like the rest of us.

I agree that some people do care about NC State (or other colleges) football more than they do the RailHawks. But I believe that those that have posted things in here with the sentiment that there's going to be "nobody" at Saturday's game or that they should move it to accomodate the more popular sport don't really understand the demographics of the people that show up to the RailHawks game.

Remember the 2,100 that showed up for an exhibition game between Charleston and the DC United Reserves after a tropical storm on the same night as Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals?

If you'd rather go to an NC State football game than a RailHawks match, that's fine. It doesn't mean you're not a soccer fan...it just means that you're probably a bigger fan of college football than you are your local soccer team. That's not a criticism, it's just a personal preference.

I'd guess that less 10% of RailHawks season ticket holders are also season ticket holders for one of the local college football teams. Maybe the biggest impact will be with college students themselves, but that's never really been a target market for the RailHawks anyway.

We'll miss you and wish you there with us, but the RailHawks will be just fine without you on Saturday night.
