ESPN2 staying with the WBNA extra time for the 3 people watching. Sure whatever. But for ESPN Classic AND an ESPN Alternate channel to show that too and not the LA Chivas game?????
Are you freaking kidding me??????????????????
THREE channels showing the same irrelevant WBNA game??????
I mean am I alone thinking something is very, very wrong here??

So, it was a playoff game so not exactly irrelevant but three channels definitely overkill.

I kept flipping through ESPN channels in the hopes that they would have put the LA derby on one of their many channels but they had the WNBA game on most of them. Just terrible. Regardless of what you think of the WNBA it doesn't need to be on more than one channel (most people would argue that is one too many).
I was also disappointed by the use of the sideline reporters. They would cut to away from the game for a few seconds to show Salters or Hopkins. Sideline reporters don't need to be seen just show us the friggin game.

I can't believe nobody has commented on Waldo's bigsoccer shout out. I busted out laughing.

I couldnt watch the game, but how late did it run over?
I guess since it was "extra time" it is irrelevant since they shoul have cut immediatly to MLS since the live action ended.

It went over the entire pre-game show that was to air at 9:30 est and into the game as well. Soccer coverage didn't begin until the 12th minute.
ESPN2 did keep a running scoreboard of the soccer match in the upper right corner during the WNBA game.

You're alone. Or should be.
There was a 30 minute buffer between the game window and the LA-Chivas match. The game went into several overtimes.
The rule is that you stay with live coverage. Period. You don't cut off the end of a playoff game.

DO'B: Oh, how I want your golden tones to work out for you and MLS, but it just isn't. Other than "up close and personal" tidbits on your sheet in front of you, you add nothing to the broadcast. Call. the. game. Yes, you explained 20 times last night Galindo is a Cuban refugee, and Landy, Bornstein and Becks have jet lag. Thanks, but what about the game?
WNBA: You can't just switch from a live game in a playoff to MLS. If the tables were turned you'd be outraged. That being said, they could have put the start of LA-CHV on another ESPN channel.
TWO SIDELINE REPORTERS?: As if we need even one down there (although I do like Hopkins), what do they do? Stick another one down there that did nothing but rehash things that were already stated. And, as usual, a goal buildup and shot were unable to be described with great passion by the PBP guy due to yet another sideline report getting in the way. If you're bound and determined to have sideline reports, there should be three places for them: A free kick near the box with wall setup, a substitution/injury, and just before each half.
BOB LEY: Where have you been? That halftime was pure class. Ley knows his stuff and respects the game, and (gasp!) he knows how to pronounce names. It's a shame his pre-game show was pre-empted. Put him on more MLS telecasts.
CHIVAS' MARSCH: Kudos to him for not taking Salters' bait at the end of the match about his run-in with Beckham. It was obvious Salters and the producer were trying to milk that first half confrontation for all it was worth, but Marsch didn't bite and took the high road.
GRAPHICS: At one point in the first half, there was a ticker on the bottom, ribbon fully across the top, and a half screen lower third (more like a lower half) about schedules...and this was during the run of play! The shooter had to zoom out, tilt and find a gap in all that mess to put the players...preposterous. Can't the score and time be in one of the corners, fairly inconspicous and transparent, like the other 99% of TV soccer coverage in the world does?
CAMERA FOCAL LENGTH: In my bedroom I have a 32" HDTV that I can watch MLS Primetime Thursday on. But the main camera is so far out it kinda defeats the purpose of having HD. The only way I can tell it's Beckham is he's the white ant with the long sleeves! I realize that you need to see the runs off the ball, but can't you zoom in just a bit more?

Exactly. You can't blame ESPN for the WNBA game going 3 stupid overtimes.
You can blame them for running the WNBA game on both ESPN2 and ESPN Classic however, and not switching the latter to MLS at 9:30 or 10:00. That's just dumb on their part.

What was the wording of the shoutout? He trotted out some World Cup factoid, quickly questioned himself about its accuracy, then noted that someone on BigSoccer would be sure to correct him.
He was pretty feisty (even more than normal) throughout the game. Is clearly frustrated by the Galaxy's level of play at this point... by the end of the match had abandoned any semblance of diplomacy and was blatantly trashing the team.
