The Italian season began this past weekend with Brescia (mostly their primavera squad, actually) winning at home in the first leg of the second round of the InterToto Cup against Gloria Bistrita. The final was 2-1, so the Romanians will be happy with the away goal. Return leg is next Saturday.

10-man Brescia have advanced to the 3rd round of the InterToto Cup with a dramatic 90th minute equalizer which gave them a 3-2 aggregate win over Gloria Bistrita of Romania. Bistrita had led 1-0 from the 60th minute, a result which would've meant their advancement after losing 2-1 in Brescia. Argentinian Alberto Raul Gonzalez scored the critical goal for the Italian side.

Brescia will meet Spanish side Villarreal in the next round, which also marks the entry of Italy's second qualifier, Perugia.

Here's a game report in Italian:

In other Brescia news, Roberto Baggio has had knee surgery and will not be available until the second week of the Serie A season. Too bad, he won't be around to help them try to make it to the UEFA Cup if they make it to the Inter Toto finals. They'll be hard-pressed to defeat Villarreal in the next round, though.
