Alves, Maicon, Richards, Lahm, Sagna, Miguel, etc. would all have been better buys. This guy is just not very good.

WHAT!?!?!?! Come on! We need to go for Alves, not a 31 year old Barca reserve man.

To be fair, I really do feel bad for the player as I dont feel he will given a fair chance. Whenever he makes a mistake, the majority will be thinking "Alves wouldnt have done that". Its really quite unfair, but such is the nature of football.

I dont think this guy is crap, but I am just not enthused about the signing. 15 years ago I would have been very happy to sign this type of player, but things have changed and I just dont see the reason or logic if this is our "future" (for 3 seasons) RB.

Jesus H.

How fecking spoilt we have become.

At least let him play a few games for us before shellacking the lad.

excuse me kind sir,

but we are having a bloody good moan about this

I think that is allowed is it not? We are used to moaning are we not?

Eh, I'm moaning about it because we have a problem in the right back position, and he's equal to, or worse, than our other options, when we should've been looking at another option.

I wasn't in favor of Alves, and I didn't want to pay that much money for someone who still has some to prove. As I said before, it's the defensive issue in RB. I mean, Glen Johnson's great going forward. Alves can be the exact same as Johnson, and it will take him some time to adapt.

I don't think the majority of us are spoilt, just dissapointed. Shocked, even. There wasn't even speculation about him, because it was so unexpected. This doesn't look like the solution. I'm willing to give the man a few games, but I don't feel this will help us out that much.

Though, we always have to try, and he could become a super player. You never know.

Not my point at all Uncle fern.

Pointing out that this lad has faults is one thing, pointing out that he's 31 years old is fair enough, pointing out that he's a back up to a poor player is alright, pointing out that he's a sub on a team that is rather suspect in defense is par for the course.

I'll jump on board and moan about signing a poxy S American - I've stated my opinion on these players for years, they're better off on the continent, not in England!

However, all I see is whinging about not getting Alves, Miguel, etc etc etc..

Thats not moaning, thats being too spoilt in previous seasons and forgetting we're a real football team, not a bloody version of Pro Evolution.

Fair enough my wise (wise sounds better than old eh) friend

Its just seems a litlte silly to me to sell a player for 24 mil and not reinvest that money in an area that is desperately needed. I understand the entire "we would be held to ransom anymore argument" but surely a cash plus player deal could be worked out for an upgrade at RB.

Personally I was one of the few advocates of our summer transfer policy until this. We had made what I would label "smart buys" with Alex, Pizzaro, and Ben Haim. Sidwell was a little baffling and Malouda was an obvious need after Robben decided he was going in the summer. But all in all, good player who dont mind being "team" players. The majority of them brought in a good level of experience in both their respective leagues and in Europe. It was a quiet but productive summer IMO.

IMO Robben was gone anyway so I didnt include him as part of this squad so it only left one position to fill- RB. And we have done feck all to fix that problem. I find that very frustrating.

To be honest, I think it's only a short term thing.
I wouldn't be surprised if we deal Ferriera to somebody in a player/cash move, either next week or in January.

Strange player to have added, no doubt about that, a real puzzler on the surface.
I would bet there is something going on that is yet to unfold.
