I'm sure I saw him on SSN yesterday say he was happy to fight for his place.

It would be in his best interest career-wise to leave soon, possibly now. Currently Scholes Carrick and Hargreaves are first choice, and Anderson is waiting there as well. Fletch would be more of a Hargreaves replacement, but the system is fluid enough that Fletch could/is marginalized.
It's sad if it's true, but he has 8 days to try and sort a move away from OT if he wants to do so.
But this is coming from a non credible source, so let's see what's up in the next few days.

Cant say I am suprised at this... He must be thinking I am captain of Scotland and I cant even make the bench at United... lets all wish he does on loan to Sunderland, and then Evans and Gibbons / Martin will follow him

The thing is he's still young and I wouldnt want us to sell him because he will be needed in the future. I say we should loan him to Sunderland.

Why would he want to go on loan? Is his situation likely to look better next season? Even if Scholes retired(unlikely) he'd still have hargy, Carrick and probably Anderson, who would have had a season to acclimatize, in front of him. He'd also face competition from Gibson and prolly O'Shea as well knowing the boss. A loan deal makes no sense from his point of view. If he can't get games now he'll not be able to next season either.
I can understand not wanting to loose a player like Fletcher. But this is not Football Manager. If you can't play him you sell him, unless you don't find a buyer, in that case you loan him to give him exposure and then you sell him. I don't want to see him leave. I want him ahead of O'Shea in the pecking order, however Johnny seems to be our second choice for just about every position so that's looking unlikely.
If Fletcher leaves he's not coming back.. simple as..

I've always liked Fletch and he dug a little hole somewhere in my heart when he scored that horribly flukish goal against Chelsea. I'd like to see him at the club come next season, if that means him going out on loan, that's acceptable. I remember his first league goal for us against Boro a few years back.
I really think this guy is going to be one of those players who gets to be incredible at the 25-27 year old age.

For him to become incredible he needs to play. I want him to stay too, but seeing as he's probably 5th choice in his position, after O'Shea, which I can't understand, he will have to concider his future of course. Any club outside the top 4 would be lucky to have Fletch, he's a good passer, has good workrate and good vision. That's why I want to keep him, but if he can't get ahead of O'Shea, why would he want to stay?
And if he does stay, which I think is likely, he'll have the greatest respect from me.

Sunderland... loan

A loan is retarded man. He is in the beginning of the prime years of his career. Why the hell would he want to go on loan? He will want to go to a club, probably top 10 like Phil Neville did, and try and lead them up into Europe, etc.

I'd keep him. He may be a limited player in some respects but he knows his limits and never try's too much. Players like him can prove invalueable some times as they perform the mundane tasks that others cannot....

Sunderland... loan
Ideally we'd never sell any players worth their salt, Rossi, Smith, Heinze, Jones, Howard, Forlan, Beckham, Ruud. Just keep them on our books, loan them to other clubs for a fee and let them pay their wages. You never know if they might come in handy, however it doesn't really work like that, does it? The players want stability and the players do have some say in what happends to them unless they are trying to sign for Liverpool.

Exactly. I can't believe how much faith Fergie puts into O'Shea. Why the hell would you put him on when you take an attacking player off? When Fletch, who is a good attacker on his day, is sitting on the bench!
He may as well move if his minutes are going to be like this.

I doubt the club will care much about the fee if he decides to move. He's been a loyal servant to us, and if he has a place in mind we ought to help him get there.
That being said, this is only in 1 rag of a paper - not even the others are carrying this.

Looks like it's more than one now as triballfootball (:D) are reporting that the bastion of journalism that is The Sun have picked up on it as well as The Express.
