USA play ugly football, switch to the Germany vs England game, much better

I concur. I wish the men's team had a striker who could finish like Wambach (brain polluted by constant WNT commercials on FSC).

No, your brain's not polluted, Abby is better than our existing guys. If she could run like a man, she'd take their job.

If the US was a club team, they'd immediately start looking for dynamic strikers.

If you could just install Jeff Cunningham's brain into Landon Donovan, I think you'd have an up-top player. Donovan is faster, quicker, and more balanced than any of the Sweden back four; he only had 2-3 chances to run at them, but took none. I am generally a big supporter of his, and think he gets a lot of unfair criticism, but he looked like he was lacking in confidence against this backline and he should have been hungry.

Overall, a big "meh" game; Gooch still fouls a lot, Cherundolo is still short, Beasley still can't play as well on the right as on the left, etc. For the new guys, Hill looked OK, Davies looked fast but raw, and I didn't notice Zizzo. Howard, at least, seems like he's 100% focused all the time, and is radiating much more confidence than he used to. Meh.

I think the US needs a euro coach
I agree.

I caught only glimpses of the game so far. Work, you know how it goes. Well, was it that bad really? This is 4 straight losses for Bradley, and it looks like he's not trying very hard to fix the scorer issue. How was Bornstein, how was his son?

The parts I saw was the goal, and that was just poor defending.

... or F. all of the above

It's all about focus and commitment. :)

I could definitely do the global warming rant though if needed. Where is the thread for that?

You've been on BS since '03, and don't know not to post other results in threads? Wow.

What do you expect? People don't give a shit and there's lax enforcement.

For real. England vs. Germany, always my first destination for jogo bonito.

Disappointed that Hahnemann didn't get a look today. He's been absolutely nails for Reading so far this season, and we obviously were looking at guys rather than pressing for the equalizer, so it wouldn't have hurt.

When was the last time the USMNT actually won a game away from home turf?

I know Robo-Bradley has yet to get a whiff...

I'm thinking Poland in Kaiserslautern.

If this game is to learn something new then why not start Hill Zizzo and anybody else not capped?

I thought that was what we used a real competition for... the copa america anyone??

I say fire him after this game because it was not a moment of pride, it was not educational, and it did not advance U.S. Soccer one bit. So what the hell was the point of playing it in the first place?

Ok, fire him. Where was Adu and Altidore??

But I agree with a previous poster, we have mediocre players. After this match, I'm thinking that we sit around 40th in the world. My regard for our team is fading fast

that's how you pronounce it. Swedish commentators generaly impressed with 1st half of USA but though they couldn't keep up the high pressure and gassed in the 2nd half.

Likened USA to a good techniqual boxer, lots of jabs but without any KO power.

This just about sums it up. No creativity or cold blodded finishing in the attacking third. :(

I like her a lot. But I think that the women's team generally wins by getting boatloads of chances, not being deadly with a few chances, and that it is a lot easier to finish against female goalkeepers. If she were male, she'd be like three inches taller-essentially Zlatan size.

but it's England, which to many means it's inherantly better than the USA.

If this game is to learn something new then why not start Hill Zizzo and anybody else not capped? Why start Arena's losing team and line up?
Bradley looks like an ass for not realizing, we don't have a striker, so he keeps trying time after time to make Donovan and Dempsey strikers.

If a friendly is not serious and is a learning experience then experiment and blood new players not repeat the same losing game plan and players over and over.

Donovan is not a striker he's a attacking midfielder
Dempsey is a right winger not a striker
Michael Bradley can have a bad game sub him
Boca is not fast or good enough for central def
Convey sucks
Beasly is a left winger not whatever you want him to be
Why is Bradley repeating Arena's mistake of playing guys out of their natural positions?

I say fire him after this game because it was not a moment of pride, it was not educational, and it did not advance U.S. Soccer one bit. So what the hell was the point of playing it in the first place?

Bleh, the Yank play was just ....bleh :( Sort of like the whole Copa America wasted opportunity.

At Home :

Wins versus - Guatemala, Hounduras, Trinidad & Tobago, Canada, Mexico.

On Road :

Losses versus - Paraguay, Columbia, Argentina, Sweden.

The pedigree of the teams we have beaten this year is mindboggling. sure puts those losses into spectrum, yeah what has that stupid Argentina ever won anyway?

Hey, we also beat Denmark, Ecuador and China at home, not to mention the point we earned v. Guatemala.
