This band has had a long career, and quite a few great albums, but I never hear much about their influence on music or how "important" they were to the progression of music like you do about a band like Nirvana. Just how good are TRHCP, and were they an important/influential band over the last 15 years in the music scene?

They are one of my favorite bands. I think they have had an influence on the fusion of different genres. They have been able to blend hard rock, alternative, funk, hip-hop, punk, and other genres and make it sound great.

If you are into them I recommend reading Scar Tissue which is Anthony Kiedis' autobiography. Very good book and it will give you some background on the band.

They're not just very good, they're great!

I think they've played a prominent role in the merging of rock music and hip hop and making that so present in the mainstream. They weren't the first to blend those two elements but its their trademark sound and style.

A lot of the people that I've talked to in HS and now in college say they do so because they mix genres, whether its rock, funk or hip hop. Perhaps they represent an evolving standard of music which is more unified rather than just one genre. Artists of every genre seem to incorporate different elements into their music and not isolating themselves to just one particular style.

I think Flea is one of the best rock/funk bassists I've ever heard. He's not Bootsy Collins, but he's pretty damn close.

And their career is longer that 15 years. Their first album came out in 1984!

That's right, kids. 23 years and still going strong.
