I was reading a post in the match thread and tbh wasn't sure of the status of our injured players at this time. We had a rather thin bench today for a squad that is supposedly very deep.

From PhysioRoom (http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php?SKEY=8cccb8baf5be8727b8de8591fdf8c298):

Player Condition Expected return Next match
Anderson hamstring no return date
W Rooney Fractured Foot 6th Oct 07
G Neville Ankle Ligament Damage 1st Sep 07
D Fangzhuo Sprained Ankle 24th Aug 07 very doubtful
O Hargreaves Patella Tendonitis 24th Aug 07 very doubtful
B Foster ACL Dec 07
L Saha Knee 1st Sep 07
P Ji-Sung Knee Jan 08

The "no return date" on Anderson is rather worrying. Hopefully he doesn't suffer from the same random/phantom injuries as our last Brazilian.

The list says Saha and Neville are back Sep 1st, but news today is that Neville will be out through the upcoming international break and into mid-September.

Also hoping that Hargreaves recurrence of tendinitis is not an injury but in fact an "injury".

I think it said the same thing about Essien today and he was fine. Plus Hargreaves being doubtful then having a good match make that a bit less reliable.

Bring back Jim McGregor!!

hmmm... that is odd about Anderson. and there has been no mention of him by Fergie as far as how he is coming along (unlike what he has said about Saha, Neville, and Owen).

i think Hargreaves is "injured" and not injured.

So, what exactly is the situation with Solskjaer? He had knee surgery early this summer, and was supposed to be back for the opening of the season. Obviously that has not happened, so what is his prognosis/return time? (My googling and browsing has turned up nothing.)

He is training apparently - one of Fergie's quotes said that Ole and Saha were with the first team, I think they were pre-Portsmouth quotes. No timetable though.

Hargreaves will probably be back for Spurs after not-playing for England, who'll probably use a Lampard/Carrick midfield.

As per Achtung's quote up top about us being really deep - I think that includes the likes of Darron Gibson, Lee Martin, Simpson, Evans, etc - players who'll barely see the light of day with us. Once you cut the chaff out, we're still back to

GK - VDS, Koozy
Def - Rio, Vida, Brown, O'Shea, Silvestre, Neville, Evra
MF - Fletch, Carrick, Hargreaves, Nani, Park, Scholes, Ronaldo, Giggs, Anderson
FW - Rooney, Tevez, Saha, Ole

We're picking out of 22 players in all honesty. Throw in an odd Eagles/Campbell appearance, but it ain't that much. Considering that currently 8 of those 22 listed above are injured/suspended - we are pretty thread bare right now.

FFS Evans and Simpson are not chaff. Fergie is just too afraid these days to throw them in in bad times.
And, there were articles in the media today about Bolton trying to buy Simpson.

Do you have any links to that? The way we are right now I'm fearful we'd take the money and then try and buy Richards or something

Calling Evans and Simpson chaff is certainly...interesting.

Call it what you want, but do you think Fergie will put those guys out for a big game this season? Hell no. If we were facing AC Milan again this spring in the CL, in the middle of a defensive crisis, our lineup would not be any different than it was back then.

That's why I'm calling them chaff for this year. Anyone who has read any of my posts knows I rate Evans highly, I want him to succeed here. But it's way to optimistic to think Evans or Simpson will make any significant impact at all this year. Fergie would throw in O'Shea at LB or CB or even RB before considering a Pique or Evans.

Those guys (Simpson, Evans, Pique) may be here for the season, but they don't matter much.

Simpson is lower down a pecking order than Evans. I think you're wrong about Evans and that Fergie would use him quite readily if the situation demanded it.

But calling them chaff was perhaps the wrong choice of word. lol.

Agreed, chaff was strong. And Simpson is down the pecking order. But I'm really not convinced that Fergie would use the lad Evans. I'd almost be OK with him heading off to Sunderland again. I just don't see Fergie tossing him into the mix if needed.

When our defense is fully fit, it goes as follows.

Nev - Vida - Rio - Evra. This is backed up by a mix of O'Shea (LB/RB/CB), Brown (RB/CB), and Silvestre (CB/LB). So even if one of our main guys are hurt, the chances of us needing to stretch past the 7 guys I just mentioned are slim to none. Had Fergie tossed one of Brown, Silvestre, or O'Shea - a bold move, no doubt - then I'd be convinced that he had plans for the likes of Pique, Evans, Simpson, Bardsley. But he didn't, and to be honest I don't know if Pique and Bardsley will be here next season. Hell I thought Bardsley would be gone by now!

I'd see Evans waiting, maybe Simpson as well. But if we don't give someone like Pique, who played a full season for a team that almost made the CL in Spain, significant minutes this year, then why would he want to stay?

At least Anderson could be useful while Rooney is gone, but even that would be a burden considering the nature of his play. He's not adjusted.

Saha isnt coming back anytime soon. He'll be 32 before he plays his next game for us.

I'm getting to the point where I think we need to tell that French twat to ******** off. This guy will never be healthy for more then 10 matches a season, and I personally believe he's a typical Frenchman who wants to get paid but never work...

What is actually wrong with Saha? He's been out so long now I have forgotten what the problem is. He would be quite useful about now.

Fergie must have read your post. No real status on the injury, but Fergie is still touting him. :)

Funny you should mention that As Sky is running a story that he has not signed a new contract and Citeh are getting a bit nervous.

Yeah, I really thought he'd be at Chelsea for about 20 million pounds during this summer. Hell, we were even linked with him considering that Gaz's injuries are getting longer and are now usually muscular, a sign that he isn't going to last much longer.

While he's a great player with some incredible pace, I want to see Pique given a shot at RB first. Or Simpson, before we go and spend money on one.
