I feel it's very very difficult to predict the German squad. A lot depends on weather the Germans abroad like Hinkel, Odonkor and Huth will start for their respective teams and how players like Khedira and Helmes develop this season.

Germany:

Jens Lehmann, Timo Hildebrand (if he gets the starting job for Valencia, if not than Neuer), Robert Enke,

Marcell Jansen, Christian Pander, Christoph Metzelder, Per Mertesacker, Philipp Lahm, Robert Huth, Arne Friedrich

Michael Ballack, Thorsten Frings, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Sami Khedira, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Tim Borowski, Bernd Schneider, Roberto Hilbert

Mario Gomez, Kevin Kuranyi, Miro Klose, Lukas Podolski, Asamoah

Lahmann was still a good keeper IMO last season (though heavily criticised by arsenal fans).

This season he has been awful. A blip or a problem? He'd be a big loss...

for the italy squad

goalkeepers: buffon, amelia, de sanctis (i don't see curci being third selection for anything other than a friendly or qualifier here and there. at a (possibly) 6-game tournament, having an experienced third goalkeeper matters, for a one-game friendly it doesn't)

defenders:
oddo---cannavaro----materazzi---zambrotta

barzagli is the third cb for sure, but after that it gets dodgy. if grosso plays well and re-finds his form for lyon then he is there, if not, then pasqual from fiorentina or possibly moretti if he plays well in spain. the 4th cb and other fb is really up in the air. i think chiellini will win one of those spots, even if he isn't with juve this year, the other i guess zaccardo.

so, for back-ups I will go
barzagli, grosso, chiellini, and zaccardo

midfield:

gattuso---pirlo

camoranesi----de rossi

if camoranesi is healthy this season, then he will be the winger, other than that it is wide open as diana or semioli could take that role, or he could change formations and put perrotta there

for back-ups

perrotta is a given (may start depending on formation), and then aquilani and/or rosina i am predicting to win roles by euro 2008.
If ambrosini is healthy he will take him for some extra experience and depth

so perrotta, rosina/aquilani, and ambrosini

forwards

toni will lead the line, and di natale and quagliarella are behind him, and since donadoni loves cassano, i will go out on a limb and say he finds a way to call cassano as cassano should have a decent season at sampdoria

and then the fifth striker role, i will go with gilardino when it is all said and done.

so

toni, di natale, cassano, quagliarella, and gilardino

this is really fluid and could change in a heart beat.

I think you can add Chimbonda to France, Bent to England and Drenthe to Holland

I'd say, baring any injuries, the guys in bold are sure bets. Fritz might get nominated if he has a season like last year and he is versatile and can play in midfield as well. I don't see Huth getting much playing time at Boro with Woodgate there. Pander is up in the air.

Khedira and Hilbert have the potential but they are uncertain as well. And I think Hanke will make it ahead of Asamoah.

No, he retired from the NT after the WC and will retire from football after this season.

Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

he was a great keeper and i still remember world cup 2002 when he was the best, and really made some excellent saves almost phenomenal, but ironically not so phenomenal against the phnomenon Ronaldo in the final.

The bolds I think will be for sure. Manuel Fernandes deserves to be there but Scolari isn't calling him up so I'm not sure. I've never been the biggest fan of Petit, but its hard to imagine Scolari leaving him out. Portugal need strikers but I'm not sure that Varela will be there. Almeida most probably though. Also, Nuno Gomes will likly be there. I like Antunes a lot, but I have an uneasy feeling Caniera will find a place in the team at his expense.
