I realize that there is a FL Superthread, but its mainly for Tampa efforts.

I read this article this morning. It sounds a little odd and its the first time I had ever heard of it.

Orlando Florida's New Sports Arena

Jimmy Lyons, former 5 times World International Martial Arts Champion is proud to announce, the new Sports Arena scheduled to be built in 2008, in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Lyons is the owner of Tyson Sports, named after good friend Mike Tyson, former Heavy Weight World Champion.

According to Mr. Lyons, the goal of the sports arena is to bring a variety of sports and entertainment to Orlando, FL. Mr. Lyons stated, “I promise to bring sports such as Professional Boxing, UFC Fighting, WWE, Major League Soccer and all Minor League Sports.”

Which one of these is least like the other?

I totally agree. But he does mention MLS several times, more than the other sports and he also says that he is friends with Becks and that he is coming to the grand openning.

Either its got potential or this guy is a complete and utter fraud.

Ding Ding Ding.

The guy named his company after Mike Tyson. That's gets the award for least-self-aware con-man ever.

How much can a Martial Arts Champion be worth? You or your company need at least a couple hundred million in net worth to own an MLS franchise.

Where does it say anything about owning an MLS franchise? He just says he's going to bring MLS to Orlando. Could be for preseason exhibitions for all we know. Clearly it's a multi-use facility. I think you guys are reading into this too much.

Michael Largue isn't in on this too, is he?

Yup, I have no problem driving two hours to go see a game in Orlando. Tampa is #1 choice, but Orlando would be nice option too...

That's what desperation does to you, when you've been walking in the soccer wilderness for five very long years...

You're kidding, right?

HDC cost $150 mil
Dick's cost $131 mil
Toyota Park cost $98 mil
Pizza Hut Park cost $80 mil
BMO cost $64 mil
Crew Stadium cost $29 mil

Red Bull Park is estimated at $100 mil

In Orlando, where land costs a fortune? $50 million probably isn't going to get anything even as good as Crew Stadium.

MLS won't be coming to Orlando any time soon.

He's comparing MLS to minor league sports.....not someone I want for MLS

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if this is really an indoor arena he's talking about, and he meant MISL.

I have heard a rumor about a developer possiblly building a sports stadium with a retractable roof. In theory, I guess this kind of setup could be used for very different sports, like WWE and MLS.

Also, Wrestlemania is scheduled to take place in Orlando next year, at the Orlando Citrus Bowl (college football stadium). So the concept isn't completely out there. Just mostly out there. ;)

I would like to be optimistic but with state and local budgets being cut, I can't believe that this is going to get built. Of course, if he is saying that the stadium will be entirely built with private funds, then it is a go. For the most part, it seems he is all hat and no cattle.

Okay, well $50 million buys you the roof.......now who is actually paying for the rest of the stadium?
