I'm wanting some basic info on the UEFA cup and Everton's position.

When will the draw happen?

When will the first matches be played?

What is the general structure of the competition? There are some qualifiying matches going on right now, but is this the last round of qualifiers? After all the qualifiers we have 40 teams split into 8 groups of 5 teams each. Each team plays 2 at home and 2 away. Then the top 3 from each group advance, being joined by 8 teams that have fallen out of Champions League play. That gives 32 teams still alive. Then knock out rounds from there with 2-legged home and away ties thru the semi-filnals. The final is one game at a neutral site. Do I have all that right? Does the away goals rule apply to the 2-legged ties?

What time frame are the group rounds played? When do they approximately start and end?

When does the draw for the knockout rounds happen?

Are Everton in the group play already, or do we have to play any qualifiers first?

Where is the final to be played this year?

Hopefully a few teams higher than us in the coefficent ranking will lose today.

Thanks for the link. For the benefit of future readers, here's what I found.

I couldn't find dates for the first round draw, but I will assume it will be just after the second qualifying round ends on August 30.

Everton (and all other clubs) will have to play a home/away tie in order to qualify for group play. Everton have already qualified for this round by their finish in the league last year. This round will happen between Sept 20 and Oct 4.

Group play will be between Oct 25 and Dec 20. Again I'll assume the draw will happen shortly after the previous round ends on Oct 4.

The final is at City of Manchester Stadium on May 14.

Away goals rule does apply to all home/away ties.

For those more knowledgable, what are the chances of Everton being seeded in the first round? I would think it's rather high, if not already guaranteed.

1st round draw (the one we're in) is on 31st August.

Thanks, Rocket.

A lot of useful information at those links. Some of it is way over my head. But the answer to my question is that Everton will likely be seeded, but it's not for certain. At least now I can figure out who I should be rooting for in the qualifying rounds. I want teams with a higher coefficient than Everton to lose, and teams with a lower coefficient to win.

I think even if all the favorites win, I think we still are going to be seeded. Don't quote me on this though.

Whether or not Everton is seeded depends on what teams are eliminated in the 3rd qualifying round of the Champion's League.

If enough teams with coefficients higher than Everton's get bumped down from the Champion's League to Round 1 of the UEFA Cup, then Everton will end up being unseeded.
