I was looking at the roster of the US under-17 World Cup squad, and I noticed a kid by the name of Daniel Cruz. He is from Glendale and plays club ball for Sereno. I don't know anything about him, but just wanted to send out a congratulations to a local kid for earning this kind of opportunity.

The US opens play in the World Cup on Sunday. The game will be televised on ESPNU. Cruz is listed as a forward. I was planning on at least setting my DVR for this match, but I think I will make sure actually watch it at some point, just to see if the Cruz gets to play.

There is not a finer kid in the sport that I have met. Danny is a fantastic player and a truly respectful person... Thanks for sharing T-Rock!

I just found out he is one of only two players on the roster that is not part of the Residency Program. Says a lot about his talent/potential that he was selected to the team without really being a part of the program that is used to train and develop these players.

Sounds like you have met him. I am glad he sounds like a good kid. I also found out he played for Ironwood High School. That school was one my teams major rivals when I was in school, so I will try not to hold that against him. ;)

Daniel Cruz got in today's game v Germany and played for about the last 20 minutes.
Unfortunately the USMNT U-17's lost 2-1 in the first knockout round of the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Congratulations to Daniel Cruz and the entire USMNT U-17 team.
