OTL is the perfect example of a media decision-maker's (Bob Ley) personal biases/preferences helping soccer. Theoretically, this should become more common as the years pass.

Bob's not hosting the show. It's Jeremy Schaap.

no one remembers Knight goin off on Jeremy Schapp? from what i remember Jeremy was asking him some tough questions about Indiana and some of the incedents with his players when Bob Knight obviously became angry. Knight leaned foward in his chair(closer to Schapp) and told him that his father (Dick) was a great reported and that he (Jeremy) had a long way to go. Knight then looked straight into the camera and repeated himself and said that some people don't have manners and some other stuff. after this delay, Knight leaned back and told him he could continue his interview. this is all from memory, i could be exagerating, i don't know. it's hard to beleive no one else remembers it.

Well, even if it is Schapp it is still an example of one man's bias helping soccer.

md_05, you are right about that, if I remember correctly. I tend to agree with Knight , as Jeremy is not quite the reporter Dick was. On the other hand, I can't think of a reporter/chair/referee that Knight hasn't gone off on!

Wait a minute. What day is it on? Is it midnight when Thursday turns to Friday, or midnight when Friday turns to Saturday?

Yea I remember that incident. In some report Dick did later on Bobby Knight he asked for an apology. Jeremy is a good reporter but definitely not anywhere near where his dad was. He's got that thing where he drags out the last letter of the last word in his sentences. That drives me nuts.

I remember it.
Sadly though, Knight was right on with his comments, even though i am not saying he was right to say them. When Dick lived, ESPN had Jeremy cover all big stories, like Sosa/McGwire, Knight, Tyson/Holyfield and couple others, but once Dick passed away or so ESPN made Jeremy to nothing and to cover little stories.
I personlly like Jeremy Schaap and watching the show now, hes doing a great job.
btw, i dont know if you guys knew, but Marc Stein (ESPN NBA expert) first love is soccer. In his Weekly Wedensday CHat he talks alot about the champions league during the season. Definetly a cool guy.

Why is nobody discussing this? The majority of the piece was about Beckham but it also covered a lot more. Keller talked about how it is too hard to resist Manchester United, but also that Howard just needs to play. Tommy Smyth said he saw US jerseys being worn in Ireland and McBride talked about US soccer and how it could use someone with "cross over" appeal. He said he doesn't know enough about Adu's personality to know if Freddy could be this person.
The piece was played twice, I don't know if it will be replayed again.

seemed like tommy thought it was his show, not Jeremy Schapp's.

I actually saw it in a bar fridaynight/sat. morning. It was being shown on all the screens but the sound was turned down so I couldnt hear the commentary, etc.
I did have a good feeling seeing it, it gave me the feeling that soccer is finally wiggling its way ito the mainstream. I made my way over to the large screen in the bar, and ended up strking up a good soccer conversation with total strangers re: Beckham, ADu, etc..
T'was the first time where I was the only one paying attention to soccer highlights/shows..
