I went to Collinsville's website, and there are only 4 city councilmen (plus the mayor)... so 3 votes is needed for this thing to pass.
The mayor is obviously on board.
The city staff thinks this is great, and that will go a long ways towards swaying the council.
I have to think that cooper feels pretty good he at least has the 3 votes

In my experience proposals like this are not brought before the council unless the outcome is already decided...;)
IF there was a serious opposition you guys would have known by now...So, congrats, you must be well chuffed about this.

Thats true, if there was any real opposition to this, there would be a heck of a PR campaign aimed at the city council going on right now.
Cooper found a city willing to work with him.. and I think the meetings in the next couple weeks are mostly symbolic and procedural.
Short of a phenomenal public outlash against the stadium, I sense that the decision on whether to do this has already been made.

If nothing else, we should all be at the Collinsville City Hall again on Sep. 10 to celebrate the vote if it goes right.

You guys should start a thread of Cooper's one-liners.
When asked last night how stable he thought MLS was, Cooper joked that the only thing that would keep the league from succeeding is nuclear war.
Its almost like having Ray Hudson with money.

That was a great moment last night.
Councilwoman: What are some of the risks that would lead this to fail?
Cooper: Nuclear War?
also good:
Mayor: You've got 1 minute left.
Old Dude: I'd hoped you would have been listening and not just keeping time.

Oh, you know that we are going to be there on the 10th of September. It'll just be like watching football: the torture of pure agony or the unbridled avarice of victory.
Incidentally, I firmly believe that it will be the latter and not the former; knock on wood.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this already, but said Old Dude is either a former city councilman or treasurer or something that was kicked out of office for some sort of impropriety. He now attends every city council meeting with some sort of bone to pick, especially with newer city council members*, whom he perceives are nothing but young whippersnappers.
*If you remember he noted that certain city council members voted on an amendment even though they had less than one year of experience. Apparently, this guy doesn't believe city council members should vote.

We had two crazy dudes. The second one was the disgraced local pol I think.
