View Full Version : Went to the SIUE game, quick recap and a couple questions:

1.) I could only stay till halftime, the score was 2-0 Colorado when I left... whatever.
2.) Great crowd, probably over 2,000 in attendance... maybe pushing 2,500, parking lot was packed and they actually delayed the start of the game about 10 minutes to let people file in (partly due to very slow ticketing process, but whatever...)
3.) Everyone who walked in the door was given a white T-shirt with the St. Louis Soccer United Logo and something to the tune of "The time is now" on the front, and "09" in big block letters on the back... great advertising
4.) QUESTION: For the meeting tomorrow, anyone know the details of where and when it is? Anybody know if its going to be a small meeting room, if I get a chance to make it should I plan on getting there VERY early?? The combination of New Urbanism and a new soccer stadium has me interested, I kinda want to go if I can make it.
5.) QUESTION/COMMENT: Has anything been semifinalized for a group meeting? I want in. I'm living in southern illinois for the next year or two, and how often does a new major soccer franchise get created an hour from my house? I'll deal with trying to reconcile my Chicago Fire fandom when there is actually a team on the field.
Overall though, great to see StLSU at the game tonight... I think tonight was a good first step for the St. Louis area.

Wow. A StlSU t-shirt for everyone! I would have found a way to come to that! I have a background in Advertising....and Cooper and Co. are hitting the advertising in a great way. Really good news.
I am going to Collinsville tomorow, and I am trying to get there around 7pm for the 7:30pm meeting. I don't know anything else except I was gonna mapquest directions.
So, how did the Gateway City SC do for atmosphere? (Do we know someone with a drum?)

I didn't really pickout a GCSC presence... there was a sign that said "no noisemakers" at the door.... I kinda looked around but once I found my seat it was mainly youth teams and families around where I plopped down at.
the turnout was very encouraging though.... I do'nt know if they marketed this game at all in the local community, but I thought it was great ot see that big of a crowd.
As for tomorrow.... I'll probably try to get there about 6:45 (but I'll come earlier if anyone knows a good place to get a bite to eat).. I have a feeling this meeting will be interesting (I expect a nice combination of supporters, interested citizens, and angry old folks).
I drove by the proposed site on my way to game. There are a lot of hotels and a conference center within a mile of the site, so that is good... also a number of restuarants (mostly fast-food variety)... the site is a cornfield on the edge of development, but since Cooper wants to bring the neighborhood to the stadium, it will work out great... its a very good location I think, can't be more than a 20-30 minute drive from most people in the metro area (depending on traffic)

I ran into a few of our guys, SB and McGinty. I met another guy but didn't catch his screen name. I also got to say hi to Cooper. So it was pretty cool. My son loved his tiny t-shirt. He doesn't believe me that it's a soccer shirt though(hey he's two).
If you want to get something to eat in Collinsville I'd say Bert's Chuckwagon (Tex-Mex) is a good option. It's only a block from the City Hall. Zapata's (Mex) isn't bad and it's right off the interstate. For Bert's look for an A-frame with some religous art on the front. Hard to miss. Zapata's looks like the Alamo or something.

There was a great atmosphere at the game. The final was 3-0, Colorado, there was a half field volley that went over the SIUE keeper's head and in the goal with about 3min. left in the game.
It was a pretty impressive turnout for a "scrimage" in 100º heat.
Sport Billy and I sat together and talked to Cooper a little after the game.
