Meanwhile Makaay started the pre-season with Deportivo and he did not seem uninterested to stay there. He was welcomed by the fans, he seemed to enjoy everything - didn't look like he would enforce a transfer.

And the transfer sum... in case of Deportivo I wouldn't let him go for less than 20 M; actually I wouldn't get him go for less than 25 M. They can still sell next season.

I think the big question ist, how desperatly do the need new money?? As it seems now, they have no money to buy new players.
Face it, LaCoruna needs money, and Makaay(and maybe Valeron?) is(are) probably the only player(s) who can bring them this big money.
i guess, Makaay will be sold to Munich for maybe 18-19 Mio Euros(puls probably 1 or 2M Euros if Munich reaches the quarter or semi finals of the UEFA CL)
Also i rather want Cisse from Auxerre, but that's a dream.

Makaay ist ein Bayer--or as the post on the main board already stated, Makaay has joined Bayern (is a Bavarian). This is very exciting news. As usual, I am reserverd and skeptical until he proves himself at Bayern; hopefully he didn't just have a single great season at La Coruna. The only thing I expect form him is goals. Around 20 in the league, four in the Cup, and 10 in the CL, for that kind of money. But tonight I'll sleep with a smile on my face.

Makaay averaged around 25 goals a season for Depor

He will be a great striker for FC Bayern!!

Time to show some Bayern arrogance? The Liga title is definately ours!!!!!! :)

I don't think they'll care much for the league. They are going for that bucket with big ears.

Elber-Maakay should be a good partnership for Bayern, but Pizarro won't be too happy with that! If you take away Maakay's goals against Bayern in the CL last season they would have beaten Depor 2-0(lost 3-2)and drew 1-1!(lost 2-1)

*Bayern have a friendly with Newcastle Utd. tonight.

You can not be serious! Elber is going to be benched. Pizzaro is a much better player now. Anyway, Elber is playing his last season so Hitzfeld is not going to worry about making him mad. Bayern want Pizzaro to stay for the next 5-6 years and they will have to tret him well to keep him at the club.

Now that Bayern has added two players to defense--FINALLY--I can sleep a little better. I am not claiming that the Bayern defenders were bad, but it's impossible to play a long season with four at the back, when you only have five defenders.

I think the real battle will be in the back, where it's more likely that a coach will stick with a formation that works, once found. Up front, you can rotate strikers all day long, and not lose as much substance as when you rotate defenders.

When Roque Santa Cruz came back from injury Pizarro was benched and he will be now. Elber may be leaving soon but while he's at Bayern he will start.

Well then we dissagree. I think you are underestimating the quality of Pizzaro's recent perfomces and Elber's decline. He was at his peak in 2001.

i couldnt agree more, Elber is involved in (at least) 3 out of 5 tranfer rumors in Europe! I dont think 7 goals in a meaningless match for the cup is worth any merit for the brazilian, didnt Betis want him at some point two or three weeks ago?

PS congrats on Makaay he'll bag loads of goals for you guys!

I'm not underestimating Pizarro, I'm just saying as long as Elber is at Bayern he will start. I wouldn't mind Pizarro or Santa Cruz playing but I think Hitzfeld will choose Elber before them. Peace.

Forgive me if this was discussed previously, but what about Santa Cruz? I thought, before his injury last year, that he had risen significantly in Bayern's estimation. Now, it seems Bayern has thrown him on the Alexander Zickler scrap heap.

Hitzfeld will probably rotate a lot. Pizarro currently is in a great shape unlike Elber. I'd wonder to see Pizarro on the bench right now. Makaay btw is not 100% secure as Deportivo did not sign the contract yet, but just agreed orally.

No Bayern still hold Santa Cruz in high regard but he is injured for the next few months.

As for Zickler... feel sorry for him with all his injuries but Bayern should really offload him (pity though no one wants to buy him)

It is practically official... Depor did not fax the signed papers to Bayern at 7pm; therefore Bayern could not officially present Makaay as a Bayern player infront of the press.

All should be solved by today.

Makaay is set to wear the no.10 shirt !!!

That's probably true. As long as Bayern has no signed paper, there won't be a transfer though. For Bayern a embarrassing to announce a press conference and make the journalist wait four (!) hours before admitting that they have to cancel the presentation.

Newcastle:Given-Griffin, O'Brien, Bramble, Bernard-Dyer, Bellamy(61. Ameobi), Speed, Bowyer(67. Solano)-Robert, Shearer

Bayern:Rensing-Lell, Sagnol, Kovac(46. Schweinsteiger), Lizarazu-Feulner(46. Salihamidzic), Jeremies, Ballack(70. Trochowski), Hargreaves(70. Fink)-Scholl, Elber(46. Pizarro)

Attendance-32,277

Goals:1:0 Shearer (39), 1:1 Hargreaves (60), 2:1 Shearer (85), 2:2 Pizarro (89)

A respectable draw for an experimental Bayern side against a full-strength Newcastle side.

Haha yes that would be pretty embarrassing.
Hopefully that is not the case *knock wood*
