So Bayern fans, who do you think would be a better signing? I know Beckenbauer is an avid fan of Morientes but I, myself don't think he's better than Makaay
and Bayern haters... your thoughts too I think that Morientes is better than Makaay. Specfically, I think that Morientes is more consistent than Makaay, whereas Makaay has had a stellar season. But I also think that a Dutch player is a better fit for Bayern than a hot-blooded (meant as a compliment) Spanish player. I really think that weather is a factor, which is why Spanish clubs (or their players) do not traditionally perform well in Germany.
I also wonder if Madrid would sell Morientes to Bayern. I don't think a Madrid player joining Bayern would be particularly unusual. But I doubt Madrid would sell a striker to a CL contender--in particular Bayern who have an excellent record against Madrid--who would want to burn Madrid given the opportunity.

I hope no one signs with Bayern Devil and all your players develop some sort of allergic reaction to Uli Hoeness' aroma.

Well, I'm pretty sure Bayern will win the Bundesliga again next season, I just hope someone actually challenges them. As for their starting 11, I think it will be:
Goalie:Kahn
Defence:Sagnol,Kuffour,Kovac,Lizarazu
Midfield:Salihamidzic,Ballack,Deisler,Ze Roberto
Forwards:Tevez,Elber

Funny… Bayern has a friendly tonight against a city selection of Leipzig. But… VfB and Sachsen Leipzig hate another – both expected to play Bayern alone, VfB as they became first German Champion exactly 100 years ago, and Sachsen as Bayern is having a training camp on their ground. When VfB and Sachsen last met in D4, more than 30 injured people and an injured policemen were the consequence. For today, the teams could not agree on sending mixed teams, so Sachsen (plus some lower league players) will play the first and VfB the second half. Due to this theater, only 6.000 tickets were sold so far – and they fear that all Sachsen fans leave after the first half and all VfB fans will only come for the second half. And I already wondered why DSF covers such an uninteresting game live – hopefully they have their cameras directed to the stands and no to the pitch ;)
Another matter: while Hitzfeld praised him, Hoeneß and Rummenigge heavily criticised Ze Roberto lately (“Can you name me five good games he played last season?”). Ze Roberto understood the criticism a bit, but not in the way they did (he scored 1+11 this season, the season before 4+16). In an interview he said: “It doesn’t make sense to play for a club that is not satisfied with my performance. If they really aren’t, we should sit together and talk about ways to get out of my contract until 2005.”

GOOD GOOD !!
concerning olafgb's post on Ze Roberto, I think Hoeness is a prick too. He's starting to emulate Beckenbauer too much.

The interest pretty much vapourised when the MLS blocked his move last year

Hoeness is a prick. Beckenbauer is a prick.
Two big reasons why I can't stand that team. Justice should be served and those two will take a hard fall.

what does everyone think of Pizarro? Is he good enough to be a starting striker on a team with aspirations to win Europe. I know he had been starting but do Bayern fans feel he is a worthy championship striker?

I think the problem with strikers in general (or maybe every position), is that they have to play regularly in order to stay on target and keep a rhythm. But for a team that has great aspirations in three contests it's important to have more than two good strikers, as it's going to be a long season and injuries are also likely to happen.
Overall you lose a bit of substance when you have to rotate, but you lose less than if you had to replace a top striker with a replacement from the amateur team.
So I think that both Pizarro and Santa Cruz could (and should) be regular starters. But given the expectations that Bayern places on itself, and the constraints that come with that, I can see why [unfortunately] they aren't.

Any South Americans here? How does Demichelis compere to that guy Real bought from Argentina?
Bayern should forget about Makaay and get Viduka. Jeremies has just become too fat and to slow, Hargreaves needs to start in his place. I see that most of you aren t puting Kovac in the starting lineup Forget about it. He is their best defender.Sagnol is the one that never convinced me. I think Brazzo could play at right back .
................................Kahn
...Salihamidzic...Kovac....Demichelis......Rau/Liza
....Deisler.....Hargreaves...Ballack......ZeRoberto
.......................Viduka.......Roque

Still no news on the Makaay issue, I have a feeling Depor will abandon the transfer if Bayern do not up their bid immensly (which Bayern of course won't).
-------------------------------------------------
12th July 2003 -- He can say it louder, but no clearer. Golden Boot Roy Makaay stated that he "can't miss this chance to play for Bayern". The Dutch striker is still enjoying holidays in the Netherlands with his family, after returning from Aruba. He deliberately wanted to remain absent from the negotiations between Depor and Bayern. But his representative, Rob Jansen, keeps him informed. Makaay insists he wants to leave Depor "to grow professionally", because "after Real Madrid, Bayern Munich the biggest club in Europe". He adds: "I've said in many occasions that I didn't want to remain at Deportivo. Now, if I can play in one of the biggest teams in the world, I don't want to miss that chance". Still, he also admits that his true dream is to play for Manchester United at some stage.
Some see in these words a hint of disrespect for his current club, Deportivo, where he actually became a star, but Makaay states: "It's very easy to improve my contract at Depor", as if all this issue began with the lack of synchrony between the striker and president Lendoiro some weeks ago. As Makaay goes on: "When Depor reaches an agreement with Bayern there'll be no problem about my salary, because it's not difficult to improve what I'm earning here".
On the other hand, Depor wants to get a good deal for Makaay. The club knows that Makaay's value is very high at the moment, as he is both the European Golden Boot and Pichichi in the Spanish league (top-scorer). Deportivo establishes that his value is far above the 15 million Euro initially offered by Bayern or the 12 million from València. Bayern is now offering 18 million plus a player from the Bavarian squad. As Bayen's manager Uli Hoeness puts it: "They take or they leave it. It's our last offer". However, Lendoiro stated that he wants more than 20 million; until last Wednesday he was demanding some 25 million Euro. Because of this, the Bavarian club begins now to show some degree of impatience. "Maybe he'll come maybe he won't", as it is stated in the Bayern's website. Ottmar Hitzfeld declares: "We've made an offer for the player and now we're waiting to see if Deportivo accepts". Vice-president Rumenigge admitted that his club did everything possible in order to get Makaay, but "still, everything is on the air". Hoeness acknowledged that "Lendoiro's attitude is leaving little room for hope, in fact, it begins to become desperate". To this regard, Depor's president - well known for being an excellent negotiator - assured that Depor will make an official announcement in two days. Due to this strategy, Makaay's representative, Rob Jansen, confessed that in the Bavarian club "they began to get more and more agitated".
Lendoiro assured that he wants to sell one of the three current strikers (Makaay, Luque or Tristán), and he wants to do it to someone who is not a direct rival. Therefore, the Galicians and the Germans have to get an agreement. Makaay believes that all problems will be eventually solved: "I'm sure that they'll reach a satisfactory deal. I'm praised that Bayern want my services".
