This story is also at least nine months old, if not a year.

Good for him but I will say that it is new news because Nigel Worthington was talking about getting the lad to change his allegiance this WEEK VR but obviously that is too late now.

Someone last year mentioned Gibson as a candidate for NI but Gibson came out right after that and stated that he'd already made his decision and that he'd chose the Republic.

Yeah, I actually remember reading that on the official website a year ago. This is nothing new, as you've mentioned.

Would like to know what kind of game he had. The Republic did well today.

EDIT: Just checked. He took a long range shot which the keeper spilled, and someone pounced on it for the 3rd goal. Sounds like he had a decent game as well.

Probably why he was picked for the republic tonight....

Yeah they mentioned that Staunton gave him a cap just to end this dispute over where he ought to play. If he put in a good shift though, as it sounds like, he may continue to get picked. He'll need to get some minutes either with us or somewhere else, but he's a good player.

I was listening to Tim Vickery on the radio yesterday and he was really praising Anderson saying that he has the potential to be a superstar if all goes well in his career.

This was in the discussion on the increased number of South Americans coming to England.

Very interesting.

As usual, Gibson has a good game when all eyes are on him. peach of a shot for the rebound that Long took. I have no idea what they'll do with Gibson in our camp.

In many ways he is ready, in others he should have to earn those spurs by having a magnifcent loan away...

His natural talent could see him easily fastracked, however. His shooting is something else.

Vickery loves Anderson - he's been going on about him for awhile now.

DS, I'm with you, I don't know where Gibson fits in with us. Part of the reason he got the cap yesterday was to end the dispute about N.I. versus the Republic, etc. But he played well, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's considered for more. If that is so, then Gibson will want more regular games in a competition other than the reserves. I'm hoping he gets a Championship loan in the next week, for a year. If Fletcher leaves, Gibson could take his spot off the bench, which he should be happy with for a year or 2. And after Scholesy retires, the 4 could be Anderson, Carrick, Hargreaves, and Gibson - very optimistic, but possible.

The BBC had a short piece talking to David Jones about life in the Prem today. :( I do look forward to a midfield partnership between him and Feilhaber - that would awesome.

Have you got a link to that piece, at all?

Gibson is a nightmare to define or give a level too. As I've said many times, the lad rises to any challenge and will look more shoddy against weaker oppo rather than stronger. He's the kid that parties all year and passes his exams with no revision. lol

(as I said, it's a pretty short piece)

I really want Gibson to go off on loan to a Championship club that has potential to come up. See what he does in a fight all season, and if he can finally take every match seriously.

Rafael and Fabio: Double trouble!

Moving swiftly on guys, you're joining Manchester United next summer, are you looking forward to it?
Rafael: We might be going across in January, but we're not sure. We've already started to learn a little bit of English - and yes, we're really looking forward to it. We're also looking forward to playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. We met him - and he said it would be good for us to join the club.

Fabio: Anderson is also playing for the club too, so it will be good to see him. There seem to be a lot of Brazilian players in England now - Lucas is at Liverpool, Geovanni and Elano are at Manchester City, so it will be good to see them when we are in Manchester. I'm sure they'll help us adjust to living in England. But we're going over there to experience it for ourselves and learn more about football too.

Marksmen keen to outgun Brazil

However, after a 1-1 draw with Korea DPR in their opener, England underlined their own firepower in their next outing, a comprehensive 5-0 win over New Zealand. This success was indebted to Daniel Welbeck and Victor Moses, who netted doubles apiece to sink the All Whites, and on the eve of their crucial Group B contest, the fledgling forwards speak to FIFA.com about how the tournament has gone for them thus far, their impressive partnership and their imminent encounter with the Seleção.

I would have expected more than 3 players be sent on loan by this point of the summer.

With Sunderland losing Dean Whitehead for about 6 months, I'd love to see Gibson get loaned out there for the season. He is going to be a regular in the Ireland squad soon, and some Premiership experience would be great for him.

No matter where, he needs to go out. Even if SAF plans to keep playing 4-3-3, he's still our 6th CM and will not get enough games. I'm actually starting to worry now. Martin is still around, so is Eagles, Silvestre, Bardsley, Campbell, Lee, Simpson and Dong. I can't see the logic in keeping all of them around. If Dong can't get a game now, when on earth is he supposed to get a on? Bardsley and Simpson are probably our 4th and 5th RB's after Nev, Brown and O'Shea.

Agreed. I'm with you on this, I'm very baffled why alot of these guys are still around. The only ones I could comprehend are Johnny Evans, Lee Martin (if Giggs has any issues, we only have Nani until January when Park is back), 1 RB - and I'd say Pique since we had to promise him an important place in the squad to make him come back here, and maybe Eagles, though the minutes he's getting now would go to Anderson. And that's with Darren Fletcher barely getting a minute on the pitch these days!

Gibson, Dong, Campbell, Lee, Barsley (I thought he would have been sold along time ago, he is literally a 6th choice RB after Neville, Brown, O'Shea, Pique Simpson - ) need to find somewhere to go this week.

All those column writers who said we have a massive squad included this lot in that. When you cut it down to the players who Fergie would actually play, it's back down to 22-24. Nothing impressive.

I'm not opposed to a big squad if you rotate it. But Pique can't even get on the bench, neither can Simpson, Martin or Gibson. I can't see us rotating that much more than we did last season and the we need to cut the squad size.
