EDIT - this is the first post in the newly split thread, as suggested by SuperElf. Matt 03/07

Given we've got a decent run-up, timewise, what say we organise a first BS-LFC get together?

I'll buy the first round in the Oaky. ;)

Not the easiest start to the season, agreed, but you've got to play everyone at some point to win it!

Anyway, just found a downloadable and easily printable fixture list on 4thegame.com. check it out

Seriously, if anyone finds any cheap deals to fly over (I'm assuming Manchester would be easier, though a bit more expensive than London), please let us all in on the news. I'm going to start putting a couple of hundred back every paycheck or so.

London might be cheaper, but the difference in the cost of the train ticket makes it just about even, and you lose a few hours in transit. It's not worth it.

Mate of mine is flying over from SF to Manchester for just under $700 in September.

It's weird, coz I can get a flight to SF from Manchester for £330 - or about $500.

I'm gonna start looking online right now...there has to be something cheaper than $700. Or maybe the London route would be cheaper. What's the going rate on a train ticket to Liverpool, Matt??

When are you looking to go? If it's sometime in the winter or spring, hold off looking until 6-8 weeks before you go. Otherwise you'll definitely pay full price.

As for the train ticket, Britrail.com just quoted me $115 for a one-way from London Euston to Lime Street. From Manchester Airport to Lime Street, I believe I paid 8.10 GBP ($12-13).

Never buy one-way tickets, always buy return they are almost always cheaper even if you don't use the return ticket.

This is the part where living in Hawaii sucks. :( I don't know if I'll be able to afford a ticket...

Believe it or not, it is cheaper (and, of course, quicker) to fly up from London than to go by train. The trains in this country are a disgrace, both in terms of price and service. As someone who used to be frequently forced to use them for business trips to our London office, I consider the EuroCeltic Airways connection from Luton to Liverpool an absolute gift from the Gods. Get the Thameslink from Heathrow to Luton and then the flight to Liverpool. Takes 35 minutes and costs in the region of £35 return if you book early and fly at the right time (i.e, something like a Tuesday morning, or something.)

Don’t submit yourself to the hell that is a British train journey.

Dude, I've told you - that house swap is still on offer. You can come to mine any time between May and August ... :D

No probs mate,, I'll hold things together for you in Hawaii. Sure I'd cope with the inconvenience somehow. ;)

May to August huh... somehow I don't think that will help me much.

Now is the reason I kick myself for becoming a teacher. I'm restricting myself on the opportunity to come over. Either winter recess or spring recess. Have to see when they are for NYC public schools this season.

if you want to catch the train from Heathrow to Liverpool Lime Street it shouldn't cost you more than £25-£30 rtn...booking in advance, obviously.

as for the standard of british rail...it's not that bad, honestly.

Winter rates for trips to London or Manchester will range from $250 to $450 RT from the East Coast of the US. From DC Icelandic is a great option from BWI to London or Glasgow via Iceland. I went to Glasgow in December two years ago for $235RT. Either way a domestic flight or rail to Liverpool is relatively inexpensive. I paid $385 from BWI to Manchester via Chicago (if you can believe it) on British Midlands. From late October to April, with the exception of the Xmas holidays and Easter Week, is the best time to go if you want to save money. As Lanky wrote you should wait until a lot closer to your travel date as the prices will go down from what you'd be quoted today.

Hmm, since I would likely be catching a Friday flight, would they happen to offer this service on Saturday mornings, or only on the weekends?

I would hate to miss aother day of work just to hop a connection like that.

And if anyone sees a golden opportunity (like a Sun. league match followed by a Wed. Cup match) and gets an inkling to head over there, let us all know. I've been trying to make time for two or three years now, and I have the money socked away, I just need to pull the trigger. I would imagine a BSer trip to Liverpool would be quite an event. :)

That's the ideal. There should always be another EPL or First or Second Division match to catch on Saturday within a doable train ride away. That way you can see three games in about 5 days. If you've not been before, a Beatles Day is a must, as is the Anfield Tour. Hopefully we could put together a group for such a journey.

I would be interested, depending on when it takes place. Right now the only time I may be able to get from my school would be around my birthday, which sadly enough would put me in Liverpool on November 8th, the day before United. So unless a miracle happens, tickets I figure will be quite rare.
