LSG attorney Barry Zuckercorn confirms the following preseason transfer made just minutes before the deadline:

out: Drogba F CH 12.0
in: Eduardo F AR 9.0

and then the following Gameweek 2 transfer made just minutes after the deadline:

out: Eduardo F AR 9.0
in: Drogba F CH 12.0

ack, while the Drogba move was a good piece of transfer business, I just caught myself in a transfer violation: I signed Geremi last night, not realizing that Raj had beaten me to him by a few hours.

So the procedure is:

1) I forfeit all points Geremi scores
2) I am required to reverse the transfer
3) I incur a 4 point penalty

Good to see I've started the season in last year's form

So to begin:

out: Geremi D NU 5.5
in: Neville D MU 6.0

0 in the bank
-4 points

We appreciate you demonstrating the penalty transfer rule so early in the season. That's truly taking one for the league. :D

I demonstrated how to bench a home defender just before game time only to have him gain all shut out points.

Lest anyone ever think I'm less than objective, I've actually gone over the league rules and there's nothing about a 4 point penalty -- that would be a harsher punishment of myself than the league requires. As quoted in the rules thread:

2. Illegal Trades made During the Season:
a. If a manager tries to acquire an illegal player, the entire trade under which he made the illegal acquisition is voided. For single player acquisitions, the manager just has to reverse the illegal trade, dropping the player that is already on another’s team and either adding back his dropped player (if the dropped player is still available and has not been acquired by another of his league’s managers in the meantime between the posting of the illegal trade and the time the illegal trade was discovered and corrected) or by posting a legal acquisition of another player. For multiple player acquisitions, his claim for the legal player is voided and another manager within his/her league could post a trade for that player.
b. Each team has one free transfer per week during the season, except for the one time use of the unlimited transfer wildcard. Additional transfers incur a 4 point penalty that gets deducted from the overall season score at the next update to the league’s table.
c. As soon as the illegal trade is discovered, the offending manager has to correct the situation. As a minimum, assuming it was a single player trade, he needs to release the illegally acquired player and either reacquire the player dropped or acquire another legal player. This means at least 2 more trades that week or a penalty of 8 points that the game will deduct from your season’s total score. (No one wants to lose points needlessly, as they are determinant in promotion and relegation between our drafted leagues.)
d. Points are not the only penalty for making an illegal trade. The Fantasy.Premierleague.com game taxes valuation gains in players. Let’s say you acquired a player with a 7.0 valuation and before you decided to release that player, his valuation increased to 7.3. The game will take .1 of that gain and if you tried to re-acquire the dropped player, unless you have reserve funds available, you may not be able to reacquire the same player, regardless of whether another manager swooped for your dropped player before you realized and corrected your illegal trade.
e. Bottom line: Making illegal trades is very costly. That’s why we emphasize that the first step to making any trade is to ensure you are acquiring legally available players.

So that means the "point penalty" was incurred when I traded Geremi back for Neville. And in fact I could have simply traded Geremi for another available player instead of reclaiming the injured Neville. In any case, I'm keeping him now, and the only change to the LSG score we need to remember is a 1 point deduction to erase Geremi's contribution.

Ingromius, For purposes of understanding this going forward, am I correct that you are saying that there is not a 4-point penalty, meaning that we do not subtract an additional 4 points from your score?

However, since this was your second trade during this gameweek, the system will automatically subtract 4 points from your monthly total, correct, so there is a penalty in that sense? You don't get those points back, you just aren't penalized further, right? (This assumes, of course, that you don't play your wildcard this week, in which case you wouldn't lose any points....)

Yes, this is precisely my understanding. All "penalty points" are deducted via the various transfers required to put the situation right. So the one good thing for me is that I only did the one transfer, rather than multiples which I would have had to undo. Still, I'm penalized in the sense that I'm now more or less handcuffed for this gameweek when I might have been tempted to shuffle a bit more.

So the idiot tax remains in effect.

On the other hand, congrats to our medal winners for this week: we'll soon make the "third" division the first division at this rate!

Minus 4 points to add insult to injury but I can't see waiting around speculating on a foot injury. Six weeks?? We had a GD team meeting, thanked him for his service and then threw him under the bus.

Perhaps against better judgment, Coach Blech has decided to throw good money after bad by reinvesting at higher rates in Chelsea defenders:

Out - Ben Haim - D - CH - 6.0
In - Alex - D - CH - 6.5

"At some point, Chelsea has got to start putting up clean sheets. And, when/if that happens, the Dawgs are going to be ready. Alex has been playing all summer, so he should be fit and ready to compete for a starting position shortly. The extra week of rest, courtesy of customs, should inure to his benefit over the course of the long and physical season. We'd like to thank Tal for his efforts, and the tenacity that has earned him bonus points in the early season games, but our concerned that his minutes are going to decrease significantly in the coming weeks."

The currents roster of the "division-leading" Dawgs is as follows:

Cech CH 6.5
Gordon SU 4.0

McShane SU 4.1
Ferdinand MU 6.5
Evra MU 6.5
Alex CH 6.5
Scharner WI 4.5

Hleb AR 7.0

At this point everybody understands the basic approach to transfers on the FPL site, with respect to information posted and format.

An important reminder, though -- You must always post transfers in the correct gameweek thread! This means either starting a new thread for the gameweek if you're the first manager to complete a transfer that week, or making sure you use the correct thread if someone else has already done started one.

Two transfers for Gameweek 3 were posted in the GW 2 thread. One was then copied to the proper thread (Eric), one was not (Saul). I've now pasted Saul's into GW3, and luckily nobody else moved for the same player. From now on, though, you should all be careful to post transfers in the correct place. There's no reason anyone should even look at threads once that gameweek is over. So if you post a trade in the wrong place, nobody will see it, which means it ain't valid. Be careful as this would lead to the same problems as an illegal transfer -- you would then have to take a transfer penalty to undo this invalid trade.

Just so it's perfectly clear in the event of future conflicts: if Manager A posts a trade for Rooney first, but in the wrong thread, and Manager B then posts a trade for Rooney later, but in the correct thread, Manager B's trade is the valid one.
