This is an interesting little bit of 'news'.

If you can't get them to join you, beat them.

That would be a clever turn of phrase if the Galaxy could actually beat anyone now-a-days.

What a great way to boost ticket sales! Maybe someone should announce that MLS is in the intial stages of dicussions with Zizou to make a special one-game appearance at KC's next home game. :rolleyes:

And if you're incapable of either, there's always one night in Sydney...

Zidane and Paris Hilton have three things in common: Neither likes it when you mention their sister, you never want them anything near anything named Mazeratti, and their head can get you twitching uncontrolably in front of millions of people.

Thanks to the latter, both became internet sensations, too.

Maybe NY can get Zidane to be the guest player in the playoffs

This should really read "Zidane to POSSIBLY play against Becks..."

The title of the article linked is misleading, the first paragraph:
"SYDNEY FC's date with David Beckham is set to become even more electrifying with the revelation that French superstar Zinedine Zidane has begun negotiations to be a guest player for Branko Culina's men that night."

Don't jump the gun too soon kids.

Don't jump the gun too soon kids.

Looks like 45,000 already have...

Tickets went on sale to the general public on Wednesday yet already an unprecedented 45,000 have been sold of the 80,000 capacity.

The article reminds me of local car dealer commercials. Come on down and get your new car today while we still have some left on the lot.

My bad. I didn't realize Sydney has 45,000 diehard supporters willing purchase tickets to watch their side play a meaningless friendly against a bottom of the table MLS club. I was under the false impression that the name Beckham was used to promote ticket sales, and now the name Zidane is being tossed about in an effort to peddle more tickets.

Oh, haha, you are implying that the Galaxy is really all about Beckham, that it's one-man show!? Wow, that is hilarious and original, and hasn't been heard on these boards a few thousand times since January.

Materazzi = Italian defender
Maserati = exotic car

I'm simply "stating" that Beckham's name was used to sell tickets. The "implication" is anyone who buys a ticket in anticipation of watching Becks play against Zizou is a sucker.

EDIT: Just realized your post may have been directed at the thread's title. If so, nevermind.

Two different spellings, yes. When either get busted up though, we all still laugh :D

Maybe once Zidane plays in a pro game again he'll get a sniff of what it was like and he'll want to come try out MLS just for a year.

French World Cup hero Zinedine Zidane is no chance (http://newtwg.sbs.com.au/home/index.php?pid=st&cid=93707) of turning out for Sydney FC in November's exhibition match against David Beckham’s LA Galaxy.

Speaking exclusively to The World Game from Valencia, Spain, Zidane’s manager Alain Migliaccio confirmed, 'there is absolutely no way he will play'.

Contrary to previous reports, Migliaccio claims no formal approach had ever been made for Zidane to make a guest appearance for the A-League club.

SBS understands tour promoters, working in conjunction with Sydney FC, are keen to secure a big-name player to complement Beckham and help raise the profile of the event.

Despite the setback, ticket sales continue to soar, exceeding 60,000 for the November 27 extravaganza at Sydney’s Telstra Stadium.
