I dont know how many people watch Fox Soccer Report on FSC, but tonight's show aired an interview with Altidore springing from his appearance on the cover of FIFA 08.
I hadnt seen him interviewed before, but I was mightily impressed by his composure and thoughtfulness, especially for a 17 year old.
For example, he was asked about Adu's move to Benfica. A follow up question asked if he thought it was necessary to play in Europe, to which he responded that he didnt think it was necessary, but that a player has to always be challenged and has to be in an environment where he can be challenged. If he is dominating in MLS, he should look somewhere else..
Now, perhaps a predictable answer, and I am sure he was asked this 1000 times, but really a well given answer, as most were.
He seems to be an appreciative, well-grounded man, and I for one am looking forward to him being an ambassador for US soccer.

Yeah, i wouldnt mind seeing him as an ambassodor either. I just hope he can progress enough to be are starting forward in 2010. The covers pretty cool, Ronaldihno, Altidore, and Ochoa. Also, i really hope he goes to Europe and he lands with a good club which he gets good minutes

I would love for him to stay in the MLS but I can't see them turning down a hug transfer fee ( I don't think they would let him go for free).
BTW I thought he was a well spoken young man. Good interviewer.

Where in Europe do his skills and physical attributes fit in? I would obviously love the EPL because I think he can develope into a forward physical enough to hold his own, but Spain is also enticing and in my opinion a good fit for Jozy. He will do great things for US soccer. Has there been ANY news at all connecting him with a club yet?

I hope he does because if he is bought by a bigger EPL/La Liga side he may ride pine for longer than I would like him to.

I would love for that to happen, but what's you think MLS will sell? Altidore probably has at least 2 more seaon on his contract and I just can't see MLS selling next transfer window.

Everywhere.

Personally, I dont see him going to Holland. Although Holland is perhaps a good "transition" league for US players moving to Europe, I think there is enough in Altidore to go to a bigger league straight off. Exciting stuff..

I think he can go to a good team in Italy and England. Somewhere like Fiorentina, Palermo. I like Parma too because of their ability to develope young players (ala Thuram, Cannavaro, Buffon and yes even Rossi).
In England, I think he can get on with someone like Aston Villa, Spurs or Newcastle.
All to start off ofcourse.

ah, what about benfica...
adu and altidore will be big players with the usmnt for the next decade...
when rykarrd and van basten and gullet went to ac milan, they simply got to play tons together...
ideally, adu, altidore, and say feilhaber at benfica would be really nice

I hope he doesn't go to Spurs or Newcastle. He'd never see the field.
At Spurs he'd be behind Robbie Keane, Dimitar Berbatov, Darren Bent and Jermain Defoe. At Newcastle he'd be behind Michael Owen, Alan Smith, Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka and Shola Ameobi.
Jozy could very well end up as good or better than some of these players, but I hope for his sake that he goes to a smaller club where he'll see the field regularly or a bigger club without quality depth up front.
Granted, I'd love to see him at Spurs eventually; just not right now.

Villa might be a good place. He wouldn't play this season but he could be cover for Carew next season and end up playing a good amount. Martin O'Neill's style would fit Jozy perfectly. They play with a target forward in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 with fast forwards/wingers like Agbonlahor/Moore/Young/Maloney. So I don't think Jozy would be competing with those guys, just Carew and Harewood. Unfortunately O'Neill is trying to assemble the England U21 team so I don't know if he's aware Jozy exists.:D

but ironically, those great Dutch players did not do much for Holland in the end, did they?

those dutch players did win the euro title in 1988 in germany....
van basten ankle woes ended his career early....
my point is, if your best country players can play for a club, all the chemistry issues get addressed...
if we say, adu, altidiore and szetela will form the next generation of american player, having them together at some big club is desireable...

It probably won't happen, but i would love to see altidore at Arsenal. Learning from Wenger would be the best thing that could happen to him.

That might be the best reason TO sell.
Freddy had 6 months left and Benfica got him for $2M
Szetela is leaving on a free transfer (most likely) at the end of this MLS season.
If you hold on to Altidore until his contract is almost up you can't get as much value for him.
Obvioulsy if he tears up MLS then that would probably help a bit with the transfer, but selling at/near the end of a contract is a bad idea. You have no bargaining power!
