View Full Version : Glentoran Vs. Manchester United FC - Pre-Season 8/8/07 [R]

Mods, if you want to join the two threads together for today's friendlies then go ahead. Didn't know how this would fit in with the generally un-enforced rules regarding not talking about other games within match threads so kept 'em seperate. Thought it might be confusing as hell, too.
Also, I'm assuming that the one on MUTV will be easier for most of you to find a stream for and that the Glentoran game might be overlooked somewhat. So maybe keep all the info on that one (for those that want it) in one easy-to-find place?
Thing is, it might kill much of the pre-match chatter if it's across two threads.

Ronaldo leads Utd superstars to Belfast.
The man voted the best player in the Premiership last season and regarded as one of the best footballers in the world is on his way to Belfast.
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo will line-up for the Red Devils against Irish League side Glentoran tomorrow night in a friendly game to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the east Belfast club.

Bit weird, Dunfermline's site is claiming VdS is going there and this story says he'll be in Glentoran. As someone else pointed out to me on another site, it wouldn't really make sense to send Polish and VdS to Dunfermline. Don't know which is true, though. Maybe we'll clone him.

From RedCafe. No Ronaldo in this game as was promised:
CARLOS Tevez, Gabriel Heinze and Cristiano Ronaldo remained at home as Manchester United prepared to complete their final pre-season preparations in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
With Tevez's registration not completed, Sir Alex Ferguson had little option other than to exclude the 23-year-old from the sides which travelled to Glentoran and Dunfermline respectively.
Instead the striker was expected to go through another training session at Carrington in the hope he will eventually be cleared to play some part in Sunday's Barclays Premier League opener against Reading.
Heinze was excluded from action too, having reported back for pre-season training with a slight muscle injury.
The Argentinian is unlikely to figure against Reading either, which means he will not play before the Premier League arbitration panel sit in judgement on his proposed move to Liverpool on Tuesday.
Absence
While the absence of Tevez and Heinze was anticipated, Ronaldo's failure to make the flight to Belfast robbed Glentoran of the undoubted star attraction of their 125th anniversary celebrations.
There was no immediate word from Old Trafford on the precise reason for Ronaldo's omission, although the Portugal winger completed the full 90 minutes at Wembley on Sunday without any apparent problem as United beat Chelsea on penalties in the Community Shield.
Ferguson, who has remained at home as well after being told by wife Cathy he must help out with a long-planned house move, did receive some good news though as Paul Scholes headed off for Dunfermline.
Scholes was expected to be missing for at least another week after flying home from the pre-season tour of the Far East to undergo minor knee surgery.
But the former England star would be in line for a place in Ferguson's squad at the weekend should he come through tonight's test at East End Park with no problem.
Joining Scholes at Dunfermline will be Wayne Rooney, Owen Hargreaves, Ryan Giggs and Scotland international Darren Fletcher.
Meanwhile, with no Ronaldo or Tevez to cheer, the Glentoran fans will have to satisfy themselves with England duo Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick, plus new arrivals Anderson and Nani.

I hope Anderson plays the whole game. Will be interesting to watch him.
The thing about Fergie moving house on the night of the games doesnt sit well with me. Do it tomorrow...

Tevez was released from his contract at West Ham and is on a free, so why the hell can he not feature as a trialist?

Been thinking of that myself... Can't think of a reason other than that he's obviously not a trialist...

I hope anderson gets lots of the ball and the senior players dont hog it, i have never been more excited about a new player then him, even more than when rooney came and scored that hatrick, i think we have a future WPOTY, because he has more potential than messi who just a fantastic dribbler, anderson has that and lots of other dimentions :)

Admittedly, I haven't seen much of Anderson, but from those games, I can't say that he's ever going to be on the level Messi is now. Although, I'd love to be wrong.
