View Full Version : No interest in Chivu in the Premiership?

Why is there no apparent interest in Chivu, Ajax defender, from any Prem clubs? Price/wage demands too high? With the rumored interest from Inter, I would have thought a player of his caliber would be of interest to any club needing defensive help - Arsenal, for one.

Maybe the apparent lack of interest is the other way around.
I would think that these things happen one of two ways -- either club starts out by contacting the agent to find out if the player is interested in coming or the agent contacts the club to let them know the player is interested in them.
Either way, if the player wasn't interested, then nothing further would happen.

If he wasn't Romanian there might be. Everyone remembers Radiucou or however you spell it. He was one of Redknapps greatest ever buys.

Chelsea have been after him for eons. Now that they can actually afford him, I would imagine they might do something about it.

Is Chivu an outside defender or central?
If he's central, where do you put him with Desailly & Gallas in the backline for Chelsea? Can Gallas play outside?
If Chivu is an outside back or Gallas could play there, that'd be 3/4 of an awfully tough defense.

Ajax have given Chivu a deadline by which he had to tell them if he stays or goes. The deadline passed july 1st.
Maybe someone will offer the 19m euros (and than Chivu would have to be interested) If not, I don't see him leaving.

He is a left-back.
As to Desailly, he will be 35 this September - Claudio Ranieri is clearly preparing for life without him.

I think clubs are waiting. He's still young for a defender. Beside another year of experience, waiting a year will bring him one year closer to a Bosman and, presumably, that much more pressure on Ajax to sell him for less.

AS Roma have bought him for 18 million euros.

is that confirmed? i heard that FIFA is blocking the buy because of a debt Roma has with sporting crystal.

Arsenal is kind of hamstrung in the transfer market because of the money pit known as the new Ashburton Grove stadium.
It's frustrating, because you see Chelsea making all kinds of waves in the transfer market, and we can't even buy an effing goalkeeper (why weren't WE after Timmy Howard?).

I am very surprised no one went after Chivu from the premier league as he is a class defender
