Ooh.
Yup. Ooh.
If the stadium capacity can be increased to 18,000 (about the same size as Dicks' sporting goods park) and Saputo can pony up $25 mil for expansion fee, Montreal can have a MLS team as early as 2009.
However, I am guessing Montreal will stay in USL-1 for the forseeable future due to the lack of interest from its owner.
p.s. How rich is the Montreal Impact owner (Saputo)?

2010 is the earliest that it would happen

That looks like a horrible place to watch a game.
It looks more gridiron than soccer.

I remember Saputo claiming that MLS was his goal, unfortunately TFC got the rights for Canada for two years.
Saputo is rich enough, and when he takes impact to MLS eventually he will do it in grand style I´m sure.
No way Montreal will let Toronto have all the fun..:D

If you mean the Olympic Stadium well, I guess almost empty it would be a little bleak, but if you could fill it with people I can imagine it kicking.

The photos AndyMead posted were of the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. It is being used at the moment for the U-20 tournament. It is an old multi-purpose stadium that was primarily used for baseball and football (gridiron).
The first photos in the thread are of the construction of Saputo stadium - a small soccer specific stadium.
Cheers!

This is great for MLS. Now, what will be the team name?. Montreal FC or something?

I doubt the Montreal team will keep the same name as the USL current team. Montreal FC should be fine. Now, will the impact keep playing in the USL as the second professional team in Montreal?

I'm not sure I understand. Has an MLS franchise been announced for Montreal? If not, then Saputo Stadium is for the Montreal Impact. The stadium is smaller (as built) than what the MLS wants (though could be expanded if Montreal ever want to expand it).
So could you explain to me where you are getting the idea that Saputo Stadium = MLS franchise from?
Cheers!

i know its misleading. The Montreal franchise hasnt been announced yet, but hopefully it will become a reality at the end of the MLS season. There is not doubt that Montreal is a promesing city for MLS future.

Montreal can have a MLS team as early as 2009.
Only if you want to overlook MLSE's exclusivity until 2010 or 2011.
