CELTIC Football Club and SIRIUS Satellite Radio have announced an agreement to make SIRIUS the exclusive satellite radio provider of the club.

Starting this Sunday, August 5 with Celtic’s league opener against Kilmarnock, SIRIUS will broadcast every one of the Champions Scottish Premier League matches live. All of the games will be broadcast on SIRIUS Channel 126.

Additional Celtic games from other competitions may be added to their schedule.A schedule of Celtic matches available on SIRIUS can be found at www.sirius.com/soccer.

“Celtic is one of the most successful franchises in sports and their matches are an outstanding addition to our soccer programming,” said Scott Greenstein, SIRIUS’ President, Entertainment and Sports.

“With live broadcasts of the Champions League, English Premier League, Chelsea FC and now Celtic, SIRIUS is clearly a superb destination for fans who want access to the world’s finest soccer.”

Celtic Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, commented: “We are delighted to enter into this partnership with SIRIUS Satellite Radio.

“The Club enjoys a tremendous level of support in the United States as evidenced by the number of fans who attended our recent matches against the MLS All-Stars and Chicago Fire and the new service will now allow these fans access to quality coverage of Celtic’s matches as we embark on another, hopefully successful season at home and abroad.

“We sincerely value our fans in the United States and we are pleased to be able to work with SIRIUS to bring them this service.”

With the cable channels seemingly reducing their coverage - at least there is one outlet we can go to.

I hear they are developing team-specific radio shows for SIRIUS. They already have a Chelsea show and a Liverpool show is in the works. I like the idea of one channel devoted to soccer talk a la the NFL channel.

Last year, it seemed that most of the soccer programming was on channel 125, with overlap on channel 110.

Celtic matches are on channel 126, but I noticed that the game on August 5th was on channel 125 (regular soccer channel) as well as 126 (regular Celtic channel.)

With that said, I wonder if channel 126 is going to beome the new overlap channel, as long as they're not airing a Celtic match. Time will tell, I suppose.

Well for now, it looks like I might be right.

Channel 125 is the main soccer channel. Channel 126 is the channel for Celtic matches, as well as the overlap soccer channel.

Although, it is interesting to see this:

Sunday, August 12
8:30 AM Birmingham City @ Chelsea 126
11:00 AM Reading Royals @ Manchester United 125

Why those games aren't on the same channel is anyone's guess.
