View Full Version : Am I missing something?

I was watching the Superliga match between Houston and DC, and around the 80th (not exact) minute Houston was attacking. There was a low cross into the box by Houston and a DC player (Jaime Moreno?) kicked it back to the keeper. The keeper then picked up the ball with his hands. I'm not to keen on rules from league to league, but I was under the impression that the only time your keeper can handle the ball is if you head the ball to him or an opposition player plays the ball. I thought that if you kicked the ball back to your keeper he was not allowed to handle the ball. I'm some what of a newb, so I might be missing something (hence the title of the thread), but could someone enlighten me?

Was it a deliberate pass back to the keeper or some sort of mis-kick that ended up at the keeper's position? For the IFK to be given the pass-back must be deliberate ITOOTR otherwise no problem.

On the play you are talking about it looked as though their was a shot by Houston that incidentally hit a DC player. It didn't appear to me, (in my judgement) as thought the DC player was "passing the ball" to the keeper, therefore was ok for him to handle. I am sure that this judgement can be questioned, but I think that was the idea in the non-call.

Actually, as long as it wasn't kicked with the foot it is OK. So a head, knee, chest, etc. back to the keeper is OK. And as mentioned, a non deliberate kick that goes back to the keeper is OK as well.

Ah thanks for the replies. It definately was not a deliberate pass.
