From the news I've been able to find in English,
we lost Michal Papadopulos and Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker
but we signed Patrick Helmes and Constant Djakpa

News out of first training session is that Helmes injured his ankle

Let's hope we don't get anymore bad news

Right. Papadopulos went home to Czech Republic (Mlada Bolslav), Callsen-Bracker moved to Gladbach and "kicker" says Helmes will miss about 3 weeks with his ankle injury.

All I read about Djakpa is that he's a Ivory Coast defender who last played in Romania.

Some more info on the young lad:

Constant Djapka

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Constant Djapka (born 17 October 1986) is a Ivorian football defender currently playing in Germany at Bayer Leverkusen. He also played at Sogndal IL. He plays for the National olympic team and for Ivory Coast U21 of Ivory Coast. He represented his country at the 2008 Toulon Tournament, scoring two goals, one a penalty against the United States[1], and one against Chile.[2] On April 11 2008, Bayer Leverkusen announced the signing of Djakpa for what is believed to be a sum of one million €.

So when is this thread going to be renamed to something like The Official Bayer 04 Leverkusen thread? Or at least Aspirin FC thread? :)

What other clubs would be Leverkusen rivlas?
Not living in Alemania, I would not know unfortunately.

Here is another bit of news although its probably already been brought up:

Galatasaray have appointed former Bayer Leverkusen coach Michael Skibbe as their new manager.

Skibbe succeeds Karl-Heinz Feldkamp at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium after agreeing a one-year deal with the Turkish champions.

The 42-year-old, who was sacked by Bayer last month after failing to lead the club into Europe, confirmed the move, outlining his ambitions for next season.

Borussia Moenchengladbach and Fortuna Duesseldorf.

No one else actually cares much about Leverkusen.

the biggest rival for Leverkusen is of course 1. FC Köln that play in the first Bundesliga now.

I would say it is the biggest rival.

Mönchengladbach is not such as big rival as 1. FC Köln.

Young lady, go back and read what he asked again.

Better yet, I'll just tell you.

He asked what other clubs are rivals. Not who is the biggest rival. He seemed to know who is the biggest rival already.

Do you really believe I am so stupid to not know that 1. FC Koln is Leverkusen's biggest and probably only "true" rival???

I've heard good things about Augusto. Haven't seen anything official that he's been signed by Bayer, though.

Do you mean THIS (http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/spieler/53058/renatoaugusto/profil.html) guy?

Well, he should be a good replacement for Barbarez. Bruno Labbadia (who coached my local 2nd league team last season) knows how to develop young players ... so he could become a Bundesliga 'star' ā la Diego soon.

Not even "not such as big". :-)

That would be the Renato Augusto in question. A major TV station in Brazil is reporting that Flamengo have sold him to Bayer for 30m Euros. Can't find confirmation beyond that news story, though.

€ 30 million?

C'mon, did they get megalomaniac at Bayer?

Right on. I don't see Bayer paying 30M for anyone. I don't even think they have that kind of money.

The company doesn't back them anymore.

But then again, we're talking Brazilian reports. Some of that stuff can be hilarious.

they might as well have bid for ronaldinho or lampard for that money.

It wasn't for that much money. I think we are talking about 12-15 euros.
