A drop-out with honour at least...

Not really, I thought Zenit deserved to win that game too.

Can anyone tell me what time this game started? German-time, that is.
1830 CET

Nice to see Bayer getting back to their feet with today's BL result. The win at Zenit was wothless results-wise but it was a good psychological boost coming into today's game.

Sorry. Not impressed at all. Everyone knows Stuttgart is an entirely different side without Mario Gomez.

Do what Bremen did and then I'll believe "BAYER IS BACK!!!"

Why do you think I didn't brag after we beat you guys? I know you guys aren't as bad as you played against us.

But, at least you guys have an easy match tomorrow.......

I've heard AC Milan are asking for the price of Vidal...any news on this? How much is he worth now?

Haven't heard that in Germany yet. Will start looking though. Thanks for the tip!

Skibbe has been fired.

Seems a bit tough when considering the entire season, on the whole a Uefa Cup quarter final and seventh place in the Bundesliga is a half-decent result given Bayer's current squad IMO.

And don't forget that the team lost it's two leaders in Ramelow and Schneider. I consider Barbarez a true leader too, but he couldn't carry the team alone.

Also do not forget the huge disappointment this season that was Gekas.

I just said at our e-mail list that I think Hans Meyer would be the perfect coach for Bayer. They need someone to "build" the team.

But that wouldn't really work for them because Stefan Kiessling is one of the major players.

Hans Meyer was the one who benched Kiessling's whiny, punk ass in Nuernberg for being a bitch and not working hard enough.

I expect you guys will challenge us for Juergen Klopp's signature. Which is fine. If you guys get him, to be honest, I'd take Michael Skibbe back in Dortmund in a heartbeat.

I feel you guys' major problem is that your team is just too young. And when that leadership was lost, your young team was lost.

I feel firing Skibbe was a mistake. But time will tell.

Have to agree, Skibbe shouldn't get the axe. If Bvb gets Skibbe, that would be a great move.

Any rumors about Rolfes leaving?

I haven't found any, but you know rumors start flying about players anytime a coach is fired.

Only if we don't get Klopp! :D

But if we do, what would you think about Hans Meyer or Michael Laudrup at Bayer??

Plus he's a national teamer, so I imagine,

"van Bommel to Barca"

"Rolfes to Bayern"

will be pretty soon.

;)

Meant to quote your other post:

Skibbe to BvB and Klopp to Bl.04 makes it easier to re-cycle the managers and easier for the media :)

[joking, just joking]

Not yet. Don't see it just yet either. They did want Flamini, but even though Rolfes is a German international, I think they know that he isn't good enough to replace van Bommel.

Yet.

Of course, if he has a killer Euro 2008, all bets are off! LOL!! ;)

I expect Bayern to really start chasing him after next season though.

Of course. But Leverkusen firing Skibbe just makes the chances of my club getting a good coach even greater.

Even if Leverkusen gets the one we want........ :)

Sorry to hear about Skibbe guys, I too, think it was a mistake. I don't know what some people expect of this team, just look at how old all those players are. There is talent and potential scattered throughout the squad and it will naturally take time to put it all together. I don't think Skibbe was doing such a bad job.

Laudrup would be a very good replacement but what are the odds of that. :D

I feel sorry for Skibbe, but I could see this come. Bayer invests a lot of money in the team every season ... so failing to reach a UEFA Cup spot, must be some kind of disaster for them (despite the fact that the team is pretty young)!

Uwe, as you saw I think it is a mistake, but I think Bayer's reasons are the same as FCN's were for letting Meyer go.

That would be to shake things up. Therefore, while I think it is a mistake, I understand why they did it.

I think Skibbe has shown he can get that team to play, but he could not make up for the loss of on-the-field leadership this season.

I think Bayer's team is simply too young and it showed at the end of the season.

They might want to talk to Liverpool about possibly getting Voronin back too. I like Gekas and hope he just had a bad season, but he was f#cking crap for them this season.

I also think Skibbe will not have a problem finding another job as soon as he wants one......

Damn, I'm not amused ... but please take care of him, Mirka! ;)
