I agree with footyfan1 - Bayer looked absolutely scared out of their wits.
I watched most of the match (had to leave early) but sigh. They looked awful, I'd love to have been able tos say at least they went down fighting but they didn't even try.

For those of you looking for a little extra Bayer action, Leverkusen has formed a partnership with the Treasure Coast Galleons and the FESL. Recent discussions with staff members such as Ulf Kirsten, went well with the near future bringing about player exchanges, supporter discounts and a few exhibition matches to be played in Florida.

I hope you guys will discuss it here. I hope to see part of it in a pub or something because I'll be in Munich for the Bayern v. Getafe match.

It's at 5:30 am with no replays at night (MLS!) so I can't guarantee I will see it but if I do I will be talking about it here. ESPN are actually showing the bayern game right after this game in the morning too.

BL 1: 4 Zenit
utterly embarassing.

Embarassing indeed.
Exactly the kind of European cup meltdown only Werder and Bayer can produce. They can pummel small teams in the Bundesliga on good days, but only Schalke, HSV and Bayern at least give you some solidity.

Shocking result!
Well, what parallels to last season (0:3 against Osasuna)...

My hypothesis; Bremen and Leverkusen have a distinct attacking style, whereas Bayern, HSV and Shalke are more well rounded sides who can produce effective defensive displays. Complacency and underestimation might be part of it but I think the fact that Leverkusen and Bremen put a bit more emphasis on attacking does them in in European competition.

When I left a Mexican restaurant in Munich at halftime of the Bayer v. St. Petersburg match, it was 1-1 and I felt good about Bayer's chances. I didn't hear the final score until halftime at the Allianz Arena and I'm still wondering WTF could have happened.
I saw some quotes from Rudi Voeller and he made it sound like St. Petersburg came out like some super team in the second half.........
WTF happened??

Yeah, and it's no rocket science...if you look at the Bundesliga table, you see because of their attacking focus but weak defence, Bremen and Leverkusen draw only half as many times as Schalke, HSV, Bayern; Stuttgart even has only 3 draws. In the league, a one-point draw is closer to a loss than to a win, in knock-out competitions, nothing is lost as long as you draw.

Yup, thats about right.
In the end, its a learning experience for a young team with plenty of potential. Skibbe is no fool, he knows what needs to be done. If they don't delude themselves they can build on this and become even better next season.

Exactly, Skibbe is no fool.
BVB's coach is a fool and that's why Bayer will probably beat us tomorrow......
