I think he has something here. Arsenal many times last season, needed
to grind out results and continued to play elegant football, but didn't
always win.

Well, i seem to be liking Gallas little by little .. Until Henry left, its been only whining and it continued even after he left .. But give him the arm-band and he's the perfect media captain .. I think he might end up being the one with teh armband, atleast until Gilberto returns .. Its a rahter strange choice by Wenger but i think he knows what he's doing ..

I know his comments during the off-season haven't exactly been
gushing of positive vibes, but I think once the season begins and football starts
rollin life will be grand.

If he can light some fire under the team's collective butts, I'm for it. I love Gilberto, but I don't know if he's demonstrative enough to be an effective captain. Gallas speaks out of place sometimes, but he's probably vocal in the locker room and on the pitch, too.

I agree Gilberto stepped up big time last season, but he seems too timid
to run the side sometimes.

There are a lot of reasons NOT to make Gallas captain but there is a reason to make him captain. I think he can be a real leader on the team. Gilberto can set example but IMO is too quiet to be captain. Gallas can make the noise.

And the France defender admits that, as he approaches the last few years of his career, he is eager to take on a more substantial role for club and country.

"I am 30 years old and I want to have more responsibilities both for my club and for the national team," he told L'Equipe.

"I am attracted to the idea of giving advice to the youngsters, to leading a group.

"If they chose me to become the captain, I would not say no.

"On the contrary, it would make me very proud to wear the captain's armband for Arsenal."

Sounds like the sort of stuff we need from one of our experienced players. He seems to have changed his tune a bit, but considering the fact he seems to speak with his heart, he may have had a change of heart. I'm slowly warming to the idea of him being captain.

I agree with the sentiments. Winning is a learned experience.

I said gallas would make a good captain.

To me he is the ideal short term captain., There is a lot our players need to learn, and he is the only one on the squad who can really teach them all of the untangibles of being winners.

Toure and Cesc are the long term leaders of the squad, but for right now, with so many young/not exactly hardened players on the team, we need someone - even if they are only going to be here for 2 more years, to instill the values needed to be a fighting team. Only fighting teams are winning teams.

Warming up to the idea of Gallas as skipper as well. Didn't like some of the comments he made so much, but I think he's coming from the right place with it.
