The start of the tournament without Riquelme. Boca will probably use a 4-4-2 for this game. Fox Sports Espanhol has the game live at 3 pm EST this Sunday.
What would be your starting line-up?
Here is mine:
Caranta
Ibarra - Maidana/Silvestre - Morel - Krupo
Ledesma - Battaglia - Banega - Neri
Palacio - Palermo

The Barca deal for RoPa fell through and then some bullshit rumor got started that he was going to the EPL with Arsenal which turned out to be bogus. El Pocho Insua is playing for Club America in Mexico.

And boy do they suck. They looked horrible in the pre-season. Pocho looks good though. He's the only one trying to do anything. I'd love to have him back if Roman leaves.
Anyway I agree with vip's lineup. I guess Banega will be playing a more creative role like he did in the U-20 WC.

Whats the status with Roman anyways, Villarreal just signed Rossi from ManU and it's not like they are a side with a ton of cash. Does anyone know if Villarreal are still required to honor his salary even though they don't play him?

If Roman is a non-shown (much like the final in Copa America) then I think Central can pull off a tie with Bosta in the Bostanera. full of bosta. Bosteros de ************.

Villarreal sold Forlan to Atleti, for 22 million Euros. They signed Rossi for 10. There is still cash for some other signing, as I doubt that Rossi can provide the # of goals they need.
As to Roman ... of course Roman has to pay his salary! That is the only reason why Boca was able to get him last January. And is the strategy that Boca is following this time.
Villarreal couldn't afford paying their highest salary to a player that wasn't going to play. Plus the impact of having him in the stands watching the games ... specially if things didn't go well for them as was the case in mid-season last year. It would had been a time bomb for the Pres and Pellegrini to have Roman there ... wasted.
But this time, Villarreal will ask for a loan payment, something that didn't happen last January. If that is the case, expect around a million Euros for the loan ... for a YEAR! That way we can enjoy Roman this semester and for the Libertadores '08.
Roman's salary is around 4 million Euros a year. That is almost US$ 6 million. But if this time, Boca pays a loan, they can renegotiate with Roman a reduction of that salary to adjust to something similar of what Boca paid last time ... US$4 million a year. Since Boca didn't pay a loan last time, Roman's salary was paid to Villa and they had to complete the difference to Roman.
It is quite an expensive move. Close to US$ 7.5 million ... unless Boca can reduce Roman's salary, then it would be close to US$ 5.5 million.
PS: Illrod3 dejate de joder: SIGAN PARTICIPANDO :D
Also, is the pic in your avatar from the last time you guys won something? :D

Talk about bitterness.
So, is Roman coming back? Because if he is, then the gayinas might as way give up now.

Here are the new Boca jerseys:

The away one looks disgusting in the pic that Ibarra is holding it, but it actually looks a lot better in the third pic, in which Banegas is wearing it. The home shirt meanwhile, is very similar to the previous home jersey.
An interesting thing is the addition to the UNICEF logo on the sleeve. It is part of some Nike campaign, and would be similar to what Barcelona did last semester. Another thing I noticed was the new logo: no more stars in it, just a more classical look with 3 stars above it representing the 3 Intercontinental titles.
Opinions?
P.S. - Can anybody decypher whatever the hell it says in the middle stripe of the away jersey? It also seems to say it inside of the home one.

I like the UNICEF logo. It's way better than that crappy Good Year and it's for a good cause.
I like the logo with the stars in it better than the retro one but it still looks good.
Thumbs Up.

It is all the Boca titles, in small blue print. All 47 of them until 2006. There is one missing now, as Boca won the Libertadores 2007 in June of this year. ;) There is a star with the # 47 on the left sleeve of the jersey.
As to the stars not being used in the logo, it is because they don't fit no more ... too many, according to Boca's Official site (http://www.bocajuniors.com.ar/2007/08/01/896.php)
I really like both. The away jersey looks awesome, similar to the away Bayern of 2 seasons ago. The away jersey will be used this coming Sunday against Central at home ... remember that in Argentina's local tournaments, it is the local team who has to use the away jersey when there is a conflict in colors with the visiting team.

Krupoviesa got injured again and so did Maidana.
The possible back 4 now will probably be:
Ibarra-Silvestre-Cahais-Morel

Don't worry, the pain and anquish of not winning shit anymore will subside for you. Look up Illrod because I read in another thread that some moron felt Ortega was going to be the come back player in the torneo. There you go mate, something to look forward to.

Why is Vargas on our team? He didn't show much in Copa America, he's a hot head and I personally don't want that type of player on our team. He showed very dirty and dangerous play during the Cup.
And is Roman 100% out of Boca? Is there still a posibility of picking him up if we get money from wherever Tevez end(s)(ed) up?

the thing is that last year boca played central and destroyed roman with man marking and little space. only problem is that this year centr4al sucks even more, didnt think that was possible.
Talk about bitterness.

i really dont care wether tristelme comes back or not but i think that san lorenzo and boca are the top contenders for the tittle. you guys have a good team with or without him. but i think river hhas to win otherwise bye bye kaiser.

Yeah, it's going to be between Boca and San Lorenzo, with River possibly contending if they can get another decent forward. (I'm not sure if they ended up getting Zarate.) Everybody else is a long shot, although there are some good teams out there. But Estudiantes lost some ground, and I'm not sure about Velez.
San Lorenzo got some good reinforcements, but they will have a lot more pressure from expectations than last season. So, it will be tougher this time around.
If Roman comes back I'm sure Boca has an edge. But of course it depends on who goes far in Sudamericana and how the teams handle the depth and the injuries that come from playing two tournaments. Obviously last year Boca lost the apertura because they had to go all out to win Libertadores.

San Lorenzo will probably be the main favorite besides Boca but they lost 2 of their best players in Lavezzi and Ledesma. That being said I doubt they'll be able to recreate what they did last year.
After River's pathetic performances in recent years, the fact that they sold some of their best players, and Llorarella still being their coach I wouldn't really consider them a top contender. I would place Estudiantes above them even though they lost Sosa and Pavon.
