Poor defending, unable to clear it. Köln puts one in the back of the net. 1-0.

At least it wasn't a loss. Sounds like a lucky penalty equalizer. Glad Berhalter converted it, or he's hear no end of it, at least on this board. :p
Still, sounds like the offense didn't show up today.

You are dead wrong. This was a case of two very good teams canceling each other out for the most part.
Koln ruled most of the first half, with the second being a bit more than slightly in '60's favor.
The Koln goal was set up not by shit defending, but by an unlucky and inadvertent backward play of the ball by di Salvo.
He hit it back into the '60 area after the players had already begun to push forward and Novakovic put it past Tschauner.
The '60 penalty was far from "lucky." It was well deserved and I thought '60 should have had another before that when Bierofka was taken down in the area.
Gregg left no doubt on the penalty. He took it strongly. He also had another pretty good match. He made a few errors, but he, Torben or Mate were there to clean up.
I want to say something "slightly negative" now. I think if 1860 really can keep this up the entire season, they'd better start looking for a more "secure" goalkeeper than Tschauner. To me, that guy looks too unsure of himself. I used to wonder why he didn't make it at FCN after they raved about him so and every time I see him play for '60, I see why he didn't make it in Nuernberg.
Hell, even last night as he stopped Scherz in a one-on-one situation, Tschauner slipped going out and I think it actually helped him. I thought there was a chance he might have brought Scherz down had he not slipped.
All in all, a good, strong, battle between two of the top clubs in the 2. Liga. If both teams can keep up the pace in which they FOUGHT one another last night, both of these teams will be fighting for promotion in the end......

Agreed. They both were two excellent clubs. I'd say a draw was fair, but I was hoping for more. Especially with it being at home. But we just need to keep a good pace, and we'll be fine.

Well, look at it this way. As Danny Schwarz said in today's "Bild", "Last season we would have lost such a match."
I believe he is right and this match was a further sign that with some luck, this 1860 team can very well be one of the top three at the end.

Maybe I was just comparing with last season's games vs. Köln. Great points and it does look like the team is developing nicely.
I've heard pretty good reviews of Tschauner's play so far, but I can see why he'd be a bit nervous. Let's give the kid a few months before calling for a better keeper, especially if he's not making the kind of mistakes that lose games.
Besides, if 1860 gets promoted, maybe we can get good ol' Simon Jentsch back. :p
One other note, 1860 will be without Josh Wolff this week, as he's been called up for the USA-Brazil friendly on Sunday here in Chicago. I'll give you guys a full report. Can't wait! :D

They look to be more of a team. And this Koln team is much better than last season's too.

Well, you are reading reviews, I'm giving you mine. If you don't want to put any stock in mine, that's just fine.
However, dude, you act like 1860 is Tschauner's first big club. It is not. He was with FCN. He didn't stick there because he was too shaky and they WANTED HIM to be the keeper of the future. However, he got nervous in big situations and got beaten out by not one, but THREE other keepers. The nervousness is something some keepers just don't ever overcome.
I am not saying Tschauner will not, but we don't know that he will either. I wasn't calling for him to be replaced now. I said if 1860 can keep up this pace the entire season, they had better look into a new keeper.
Besides, if 1860 gets promoted, maybe we can get good ol' Simon Jentsch back. :p
Good thing you're kidding, because that is a bad joke.......

Well, seeing that there are no matches here this weekend (International week), I don't think '60 will really miss him! LOL!! ;)

I'm not dismissing your view at all, especially since you've gone to games this year and all I have are websites and that slow grainy B-win feed. :D
Didn't know that about Tschauner & 1. FCN. We'll have to see how that develops. At least we still have Michi Hofmann just in case. Maybe 1860 will have some cash to invest in a new keeper for next season.
The Jentsch comment was only half a joke. I think he's doing a pretty good job with Wolfsburg - I've seen 2 of their games this season thanks to Gol TV.
With the current trend or bringing back old Sechzigers, ya never know, he might come back. But it is best that 1860 investd in a young guy who can be their top keeper for 10+ years rather than bring in a retread who will be retired in 2-3 years.
Totally forgot about that International week. Good thing there's USA-Brazil or I'd have a football hangover this weekend. :D

Our keeper discussion is a moot point now. Tschauner suffered a knee injury and is out for 3 months.
Hopefully Hofmann is ready, and I have no clue who 1860 has that could be a good backup. Plus, the transfer window's closed so they'd have to sign someone out of contract.
Ledgerwood's out for 4 months too with a dislocated ankle. Ouch! :(

I've also seen Tschauner well before he joined 1860.
Didn't know that about Tschauner & 1. FCN. We'll have to see how that develops.
Well, in all actuality, I wanted to mention it last season when LoewenBoy was fawning all over Tschauner, but he and I had been fighting enough, I didn't want to start another one..... ;)

I doubt it. Promotion won't put you guys right back in the bank and if you don't win promotion, the money for the 2. Liga isn't that dang much.......

He is doing a good job, but return to '60? LOL!! Not anytime soon......
With the current trend or bringing back old Sechzigers, ya never know, he might come back.
Not seeing that he is probably making more money on his contract than '60 have in the bank. Probably when he's old and useless, he'd consider coming back to '60, but if '60 are promoted, I am here to tell you that you are not going to see Simon Jentszch breaking his newly extended contract (until 2011) at Wolfsburg to bolt back his old and still broke club. It just isn't going to happen.
You can point to Bierofka and Schroth, but the fact of the matter is no other 1. Liga team was going to give either one a shot again. If they were going to wind up in the 2. Liga anyhow, then why not go home again?
But it is best that 1860 investd in a young guy who can be their top keeper for 10+ years rather than bring in a retread who will be retired in 2-3 years.
'60 has to get the money to invest first. And if an "old retread" is the difference between near promotion and promotion, then why not?
Of course, that is IF Tschauner doesn't work out. I never said HE WOULD NOT WORK OUT.....
Totally forgot about that International week. Good thing there's USA-Brazil or I'd have a football hangover this weekend. :D

"Loewenboy" told me privately just a bit ago. I think Hofmann will have to be the man. And unless he is just completely out of shape, I think he will be fine.

Shame Kasie Keller signed with Fulham... I would have suggested another American... one that understands Berhalter's backpass (er... maybe I should have said own goal ;))
BTW, how is Josh Wolff doing for you all? He has been included in the USMNT side for the Brazil match in Chicago this Sunday (which I will be attending).

Josh has been much better this season. He has had time to get properly acclimated to the team and is a plus now.
He didn't do very well against Koln, but in every other match so far, he's done well.

Josh has been doing well with 1860 this season.
He hasn't been playing at forward since Kurz got the 1860 manager job last season. They're using him as a side attacking midfielder and he's been feeding the striker(s) and CAF Göktan. That may have been why the US team called him up, having dropped him recently at forward.
I'll be at the game at Soldier Field on Sunday too. :D I think we're in big trouble, especially since the US team has looked pretty bad since the Gold Cup.

From LoewenBoy:
The kid who will back up Hofmann is Andreas Roessl. He's 19 and has been with 1860 since he was 7. Native Muenchener and knows the club well. He has been good in goal for the IIs but their defense has been shaky. They have been close in many matches, just missing Kurz, I think. They guy who took over is putzing with Kurz's system and it is not as successful as Kurz was last season.
Then later, Loewenboy sent:
And am now told by a birdie we are going after a Paraguyan named Rodolfo Rodriguez who holds a spanish pass. ;-) back-up for hofmann.

Well not to veer this thread off 1860 too much, but to say that the USA team 'looked pretty bad' since the Gold Cup is quite accurate regarding performance but not regarding the team. The Copa America team was a C team at best; the full team did lose to Sweden 1-0 but as a neutral observer, the USA doesn't exactly light it up when playing in Europe.
