Is it just me or is this year's Winterpause much longer than usual? I thought they started back in mid January.

Maybe I'm just jonesing for some Deutsches Füßall...

We do have the big derby vs. Bayern on the 26th and then the Cup match in Aachen on the 29th.

You're just jonesin', but you're not the only one who needs a fix! LOL!! :D

I like the Premiership enough to tide me over though. ;)

1860 beat Spanish fourth division club UD Ibarra by a score of 3-0 in a test match at close of their training camp on Tenerife on Sunday.

Schwarz (4th min), Ziegenbein (51st min) and new signing Chuly Pagenburg (85th min), scored the goals for 1860.

Rumors are flying that there is a possibility Markus Schroth will miss the entire season. According to a "Kicker" article, he underwent arthoscopic surgery on his same right knee.

According to the team doctor, he had infected tissue, which led to joint friction and swelling.

If I remember properly, this is the same thing that ended Matthias Sammer's career.

Treatment has advanced since then, but this is still a big blow.

I believe the article also says that with the injuries to di Salvo and Goektan, Mustafa Kucukovic is just about assured of the starting striker spot.

Here is the article at Kicker.de. (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/startseite/artikel/374445/)

The article is in German, but maybe someone can tell me if I read something wrong.

1860 and Bayern are playing their "friendly" match right now. Luca Toni just put Bayern up 1-0 in the 52nd minute. Free kick from Kroos into the area and Torben did all he could to hold off Toni, but Toni showed why people consider him a world-class striker. He got his head to the ball and put it past Tschauner, who I thought should have been in better position.

Michael Hofmann played the first half in goal and made some nice stops. Despite the injury-riddled lineup, 1860 has fought and played well.

58th minute now.

75th Minute: Michael Duhnke ties it for 1860!!!

A cross was put in that Bayern defender Demichelis thought Kahn would get, so he let it bounce. Duhnke got in between Demichelis and Kahn and headed the ball into the Bayern net!

It is now the 76th minute and Bayern nearly went back ahead twice! Tschauner stopped a hard shot from Altintop and Schlaudraff shot just wide of the net.

Canadian fans. Ledgerwood just came into the match. 1860 are playing the kids now.

It finished 1-1!! 1860 finished with the kids on the pitch too! Great result!!!

I caught the goal until the end of the game on B-Wire. It was great to see 1860 equalize and hang on. I am rooting for Tschauner and he made some solid saves in the end. I was a bit surprised to see Duhnke (I had never really heard of him); it was a smart, opportunistic play. He sure is of sleight build. Is he going to be a regular for 1860?

From what LoewenBoy told me on e-mail, Duhnke is on the amateur team and on his last chance with the team. Apparently, they got Josh Wolff because Duhnke didn't show he could handle that position in the 2. Liga.

I don't know if that is right, but that is pretty much what LoewenBoy told me.

I've only seen Duhnke today myself. So I will just wish him the best of luck.

CORRECTION: LoewenBoy e-mailed me again today and told me the player who was given the ultimatum was Ralf Schmitt, not Duhnke.

Sorry for the confusion. I'll blame it on his beer! LOL!! :D

update: let's hope not, 1860 is down 2-0 in the 40th minute.

Holy cow! I was following the match on the 1860.de ticker at work....
I looked up and it was 2-0 Aachen, then looked up again and it was 3-2 1860!!!

Das Wunder von Aachen? :D

Die Löwen are off to the quarterfinals! I hope we don't draw Bayern... :p

This and the Bayern friendly make one heck of a good start to the second half.

The striker injuries are still a bit worrisome. Today's 1860 ticker said Kucukovic hurt his shoulder in the first half, but he stayed in and scored the equalizer. Let's hope Pagenburg makes a good first impression and Holebas too, since he might be pressed into first-team service.

Apparently 1860 is finally starting its own Online-TV product on Saturday (2/2). It will include interviews, news and other analysis. In terms of match footage it looks like only highlights will be available--I guess that it pretty typical though for team-branded online programming.

The cost will be €11.95 for the Rückrunden, and after this will be €39.95 per annum.

I will be very interested in seeing what sort of "archive" is available. I like interviews and news, but primarily I want to see match footage.

From what I remember, teams can't show entire matches because those rights belong to Deutsche Telekom and Premiere. I think those two entities have their own packages.

BVB has the same type of service called the "BVB Club." I don't know the prices for BVB's though. I get it free because I am one of their translators and we do our work on a volunteer basis.

If it is going to be like the "BVB Club" there will be plenty of interviews and highlights of 1860 Matches. Just no full matches.

EDIT: "LoewenBoy" just e-mailed me the entire official statement. I could not access the link from here at the office. Full matches WILL be offered about fifteen minutes after the final whistle. The statement doesn't say it, but apparently they have a deal with Telekom/Premiere to offer the service.

This is great for Loewen fans all over the world! :D

Yes, good news, and HSV is offering a similar service http://www.hsv.de/index.php?id=19248 so German teams are starting to catch on.
