because a World Cup already exists..... the confederation champion is equalled to what..... if Turkey wins, what are they? Brazil is still the world champion. France is the still the European champion.

The World Cup is the mother of all competitions. It warrants the utmost respect and attention. Every player consider playing in the World Cup the highlites of his career. Look at Romario. He felt insulted when he wasn't picked for J/K.
That said, FIFA is the vintage stupid organization. They don't know how to use the World Cup as leverage to raise the status of other competitions, especially the Confederation Cup.
How can the use the World Cup to get attention for the Confederation Cup? Easy, by tying WC berths to Confederation Cup success.
For example, hold the Confed Cup at the World Cup year + 1. The confederation that has the Confed Cup winner will be rewarded with one extra WC berth. You think the confederations will send out their best teams to compete? Europe wouldn't even send Turkey to the tournament. They would have sent WC runners-up Germany...
In this day and age, besides rewarding the winner with an obscene amount of money (e.g. the winner will get billions $$$ of bonus money, i.e. better than what a Ronaldo/Beckham can earn in 5 years), the next best thing is WC berths...

Very good but doesnt answer the question. Why Isnt this tournament more respected??? There is no qualifying but that doesnt make it bad. Seems a reasonable little tourney---Why diss it??? A footie tournament sounds goo in an off year.Maybe FIFA pisses you off???? Take a number. Teams dont care so I see that..Go to the Euro 4 board.

The Confed Cup is more difficult to reach than the World Cup. The World Cup has 32 open spots determined by qualification. The Confederations Cup only allows the champion of each Confederation, the host, and one or two invitation spots, namely given out to team performance from the World Cup.
If it weren't so often, it would probably get some respect. But with only one country from each region getting a spot, it's hard to have _world wide_ appeal.
