This weekend, my wife and I traveled to Massachusetts to take the MA bar exam and close on a house. Right before closing, we visited a British-style pub called St. James's Gate (try the SmuttyNose Ale - it's fantastic). A guy at the bar looked at me, observed my Man Utd #18 shirt, and said, "Nice shirt." He was apparently awaiting my accent. When it was obviously American, he said "Ever been to a game?" I shamefully responded, "no." I then asked who he supported. "United," he said, as if it were obvious. I asked where he was from. He responded, "Manchester," derisively.

That was pretty much that. He did kindly point me toward the mussels, which were delicious.

Oh well. I admit I am at least 65% glory hunter in this case, so it's all good.

You should have asked him were his shirt was if he is such a proper fan ;)

glory, glory, glory man united
glory, glory, glory man united
glory, glory, glory man united
and the reds go marching on and on!:D

Sometimes I would get called a glory hunter despite having been to games and living 35 miles from Manchester. Like I care!

I have and I have seen many United tops on views. The Leeds fans are so depressed that with a few exceptions they do not talk of United.

BTW I am very much alive and kicking.:D

50% of the glory hunters become fans .. The question is, which one are you ?!

I ,live 20 minutes from Manchester, have supported Man Utd for the last 15 years or so, and I still get called a glory supporter. It goes with the territory of supporting a successful club.

You should have reminded him that the primary reason why Man Utd are still top of the game is because over-seas supporters like yourself invest millions of pounds into our coffers just by buying shirts and allow us to compete with the rest....

I was with a bunch of leeds fans in dublin for the FA Cup final ..The pub that i walked into had about 40 of them in there and I didn't realize they were leeds till kick off when they all kicked with " Marching on togather" well let me tell they still hate everything about united ...the bitterness is still there :D but the yawkshire accent after 10 pints was um yea :D

:DOne that I work with always talks of the 'scum' as he calls United and to be honest he is hilarious in his delusion though sometimes he oversteps the mark with comments about Munich.

Hilarously Farsley Celtic, a small club in Leeds, has been promoted to the conference and are only two leagues below Leeds. Soon to be the biggest club in Leeds.

I feel like alot of us had a bit of glory-hunter when we started supporting United - whether you lasted with them, such as most of us, or jumped ship to Arsenal and then Chelsea is where the difference lies. I started in 96, and while my Manc-at-the-time uncle started me on, the trophies didn't hurt. But since then, I'd say I was a fan.

I started supporting United in 99 because of Beckham and of the Treble madness (I think) I was only 9 so I dont really remember why but like most little kids I supported the biggest club with the best players at the time. Then when I moved to America in 00 I stopped and started again in 05 when I started playing soccer again. So I was a bit of a glory hunter, but even when we go bankrupt, and joint leeds in league 17, I will still be a supporter.
I have no choice United are tattooed on my back:)

I admit I picked United out randomly. Was playing FIFA 99 for the first time with someone and he said "well Man Utd are pretty good, take them." I knew nothing about soccer at the time so I did. Eight years later, I'm United for life :)

I'd been playing the game for awhile when I started supporting, New Orleans had a really good park-league system. I played U-8's and U-10's - I just remembered that my 2nd U-10 team was called Arsenal, and we were undefeated that season - which is strange considering what happened to the real Arsenal. But I had never followed pro-footy.

Then my pops got a pair of free tickets through his hospital to Spain-Switzerland in the FIFA 94 World Cup, in D.C. AT RFK. Then I was just footy mad..

wow some crazy stories - I didn't used to be much of a footy fan but the we get the YES Network (the NY Yankees channel) and they had made a deal with MUTV a few years back to show each others matches and it they would should them when I would eat breakfast before school. Soon I was hooked and watched every game. They would show them like a week late and I would avoid going online so I would miss the results. Had no idea how massive United were until I got into it...........hundreds of dollars and taking a school year to go to uni in manchester later I still can't get enough.........

I was on a flight from Liverpool to Nice in June, full of scousers and their "loveable" accents. Me and my friend from Carlisle were wearing United tops and when the stuardess came by asking for trash and the man sitting next to me said we were wearing it. My English friend snaps back and says "weve won it 2 times without killing anyone" and basically the entire plane (it was pretty small) looks at him and stares. I would have said something, but I would have been twated in the mouth.
