From http://www.fifa.com/en/display/mrel,70479.html

"[T]he Executive Committee discussed the tendency of players to remove their shirts when celebrating a goal. In the interests of maintaining discipline and order on the field of play, the committee decided that from now on, such practice shall be forbidden during a match. "

Hmmm... Why?

What is the punishment for taking off one's shirt now? What about simply pulling it over your head?

How much does it take to buy a FIFA exec? Maybe we could get a bigsoccer representative.

Have you seen DMB taking his shirt off? It's not a pretty sight. Banning this practice will help us give the illusion that soccer players are tough guys!

Does this apply to this years womans world cup? Cause that might lower the TV ratings significantly.

For an encore maybe Brandi will drop her shorts.

Who will be the first player to celebrate a goal with a full moon?

a guy i played with on a club team years ago did this. It was a tough, physical game and he scored what would be the winning goal with about 2 minutes left in the match. So he ran over to the opposing team, dropped trou, and told the other team to kiss his arse. He got sent off of course, but it was worth it. It was so funny that it took all the air out of the game and the other team couldn't even mount a single attack in the remaining minutes.

Back in the old days, it was a simple old throw the hand in the air and jump up and down for goal celebrations. Then it was the run as fast as you can then sliding on your knees. Now, it all this taking off the shirts thing.
But FIFA are bringing in a silly rule, much like having to have your shirt tucked in and not hanging out around your arse. I remember one game, Paul McGrath (ManUtd/Villa/Ireland) was threated with a booking if he didnt tuck in his shirt.

THANKYOU FIFA!

I dont know about other guys but I HAVE NO INTEREST in seeing Beasleys bare chest. Shirt removal makes NO SENSE whatsoever and whoever did it first should be shot.

I want to see my teams jersey during a goal celebration. Players come and go, my team is always the same. I rather remember the team than the bare chest of some dope.

I love goal celebrations but shirt removal is plain boring and dumb. If you are entertained by that....

Maybe now they will start thinking of new fun ways to celebrate again.

Thankyou FIFA!

Soccerscout once again you are full of sh!t.

I don't give a crap about ANY goal celebration but FIFA making rules about

a) tucking the shirt in the shorts like Father Ted said
b) This

Is plain dumb. Who the ********** are they to tell anyone what to do? They act like they own the game but this IS NOT HOW IT IS. They drive big cars because of the game. The game owns them, not the other way around.

As far as I care FIFA can go ********** themselves. They should have no authority on these kinds of matters.

AFCA, I guess you also dont care about FIFA World Cups. Its funny how Im full of "sh!t" because I dont care for seeing half naked men running on the field. I'll pass on that, you can keep it. But looks like FIFA is on my side.

EXACTLY (all caps there for emphasis). Maybe now they'll have to use their imaginations a little bit when celebrating a goal. At the moment every idiot and his mother takes off his shirt to celebrate.

"In my day when you scored a goal, all you got was a brisk handshake. Nowadays you get covered in love bites."

Sad, but probably true. Do you think they would give an exemption to someone who tattooed the swoosh to their chest?

I remember Taylor Twellman once saying that if he ripped his shirt out after a goal, his father would disown him. Which is why Twellman's celebrations usually invlove the corner flag. But it's better (for me at least) than seeing his bare chest.

Query: What if Adin Brown was a goalscorer?

Dumb rule addressing a dumb act. The stripping hurts nobody If people are offended they can criticize it. If they're not offended they can cheer. There's absolutely no need to ban it. Fifa needs to shorten their meetings if this is the type of crap that's on the agenda.
