I can't believe it, Univision is as bad as ESPN. How the Hell can you not show a replay of the golden goal?????

Not only that, but they didn't show the trophy ceremony afterwards either, which was very nice (I saw it in the Asian web feed).
Both team captains, Desailly and Song, received the cup. The Cameroon players had a huge picture of MV Foe, and they put his runner up medal on it. Then both the France and Cameroon guys got together for a group picture.
Everything was very calm, there was no victory round around the field or anything.

Contractual obligations. Ads have been sold on the next program. If those ads don't run, the network has to refund the money.
This is 2003. TV Network bosses in the US care more about the ads airing properly than programs airing properly.
The TV business is all about the Benjamins.

All they needed to do was cut a couple of Os out of GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL, and they would have had plenty of time :)
More seriously this is crap coverage, no matter the reason.

Agreed. This reminds me of Euro '96 when ESPN2 didn't show one replay of the Bierhoff golden goal that won Germany the title. Before you knew it as Bierhoff and the rest were celebrating after the goal ESPN2 switched immediatley to the X-Games(or was it the Extreme Games then?). What makes it worse was that ESPN2 showed about 20 hours a day of X-Games coverage.

It's the Confederations Cup I'm leaning towards the possibility that the rating haven't been what they expected. Seeing how they cut to one of their consistent ratings winner or a spin-off of it I should say.

I can't believe the obligatory "Univision does nothing for soccer in this country. Move the games to Telemundo!" post hasn't popped up yet. Where are the the resident soccer-basher victims?

Shame on Univision...
They treat their televiewers as SECOND CLASS CITIZENS...
What else is new?

I think the drumbeat has led unilingual folks to assume that Disney had a unique vendetta against us soccer fans. So this might've come as a surprise to those who don't watch Univision regularly...

This is too funny...
What has not been mentioned is that although they did cut away before the feed showing the replay of Henry's goal, they obviously did so to insure they they got the tribute to Foe on the air-which IMO showed a nice touch of class on their part.
Nothing lame about the choice at all: they were limited re: air time and went with the choice of making sure we all left without forgetting what was really important about this match. I have no problem with that at all.

Yes, they showed Euro '96 on ESPN2. There is no Euro '06.
Yes, that's the ESPN2 that most of us have right now in order to watch Champions League soccer. Unfortuntely, in 1996, ESPN2 was a newly launched channel. Most of the country didn't have it. Yet they showed some games on ESPN2, including some group games.
As far as I remember, the only game televised on ESPN was the semi-final between England and Germany.
 Are they showing it again this time?
certainly, if pigs can fly...
