Good. Extended playing time for Werder during Diego's absence would be a nice "excuse" to cap him for Germany's senior team early.
My bets are on Aaron Hunt, who did very well in preparation
at the playmaker position, but both are good talents. :)

Yes, don't forget Hunt. He replaced Diego really well in the Pokal match. This could be his year as well.

The point is that Özil might be lost to the Turkish federation (Hunt's situation is different). Anyway, that doesn't concern Werder directly. But I wouldn't rate Hunt just as highly as Özil, he's almost 22 after all.

In Özil's case, I'm rather confident that he'll play for Germany in future, he never even mentioned anything else. There are no guarantees, of course, but I don't think that there is reason to worry.

Don't be too naive about this...even in a kicker interview on why he had decided to play for Germany (last year), he said as explicitly as you'll ever hear it that he is still going to change and play for Turkey if that turns out to be the better perspective. Take that together with a few bits we know about his father's active career involvement and consider that even Tasci was wavering lately.
In any case, I wouldn't blame anyone, but that's the best reason to be realistic.
I'm sure Allofs/Schaaf want him to play for Germany, that's about his market value, after all...

I'm not naive actually. I don't think that Özil's main motivation is his 'patriotism', but career ambition. He simply knows that he is good enough to play for Germany one day, and if he continues to work hard, he most likely will get his chance in not too distant future.
He was born and raised here, is a key player of the U21 national team, is playing for one of the strongest German clubs at the age of 19 already. All these factors speak for a career in the senior German national team. It's not like he had a Tyrala type of career so far.

In any case, Eilts has confirmed the only player he didn't call up because of lack of fitness for the U-21 was Manuel Neuer, so Özil is missing for another reason.

It can't be his performances for the U21 side. Özil has been one of the best / most consistent performers, and Eilts definitely knows this. Maybe Werder asked Eilts not to call him up so he can fully concentrate on the pre-season preparations / start of the season, knowing that Özil most likely will replace Diego in the coming weeks (Olympics).

That´s right,
we are an independent football club.
First priority is, that Werder has sucess.
Özil as any other player has to be fit and
show performance to be a starter.
P.S.:
IMO Özil is on a good way.

I like the video (good quality), but you are right: sadly
the sound is missing. So here´s one with sound. ;)

Psycho HSV fans reported Tim Wiese to the police,
because of this scene in the Northern derby:
http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/fussball/bundesliga/vereine/werder/2008/09/24/torwart-tim-wiese/wiese-tritt-olic-9209576mfbq-gesicht,templateId=renderScaled,property=Bild,width=227.jpg
So police investigated against Tim and Olic was asked
if he got a trauma, because of the "kung-fu-scene".
He answered, that he got no trauma and can´t understand
the investigations. So the Hamburg prosecution (pathetic to have
even checked it) ended their investigations.
Wiese said in an interview, he has more fear of the death threat,
he received by Hamburg fans after the derby than of the investigation.
It says enough, that investigations against a football player gets started,
while threathed on his life. Something goes really wrong here in Germany
and especially in Hamburg.
