Well we definately seem to be gaining some upward momentum.

Positive press releases from our team.
We seem to have shed all the deadweight on the team.
Emirates Cup!

All that's left is getting rid of reyes, and then hopefully picking up one more attacking midfielder who can play on the left - since rosicky seems to get injured quite a bit.

Feel free to change the title, it's all I could think of right now.

As for Di Maria - that was just a weird situation.
Quotes from him, then he joins benfica. Either someone made up those quotes - which is low, even for the tabloids, or he is extremely fickle.

I'm confident we will do well this year - assuming we don't get hit by a slew of injuries like last season (we had up to 9 people out injured a few times).

We should be aiming for about 75-80 points in the league. If eduardo suddenly snaps into form in the next month or so, we could perhaps make a title run. The title will require about 90 points again this season, I'm just hoping we approach, or break the 80 point mark.

In the carling cup I would field a complete second string of players - not include toure or cesc as we did last season. It is more important than ever to keep our first XI fit as much as possible.

As for the CL - I'd suggest reverting back to the 4-5-1 that took us to the finals. Play diaby, and if we are dominating the midfield battles, the job is practically done as long as van persie or eduardo can finish.

Gimme a few minutes to come up with something better, and then change it - or change it now if you have something.

edit: Slow day at the office, mind not working as sharply - going to pull some demotivators.

No, no, the first choice must stand - besides, at the rate these people are getting through these threads it will be done in a few days!!

Im starting to think otherwise. I think if Walcott can step up, we will be ok and I feel he will. With our present strikers we will be fine, defense should be ok, and Diaby I feel will make a ste up.

If rosicky is injured, I say we go 4-5-1, since from what I hear, eduardo seems to provide good service from the wing. Of course if we sign someone else, we will stick with the 4-4-2.

---------RVP
Eduardo---------Hleb
----Diaby---Cesc
-------Gilberto

Integrating Diaby is key this season. He has shown himself to be a difference maker, and we always seem to look so much better with him, than without him.

Against chelsea, manutd, liverpool, cl games, tough away games where we may need to be cautious, we should always play 4-5-1 with diaby in the lineup.

If I had to pick an area on the field where we were weakest it would be striker, but the area I would reinforce would be left wing.

Our defense is set, assuming everyone stays.
Our midfield is great except for being thin on left wing.

If reyes would consider going to france, why won't he come back to england? He can be bffs and roommates with cesc. Cesc doesn't complain about the shops, the food, or the weather - maybe reyes just doesn't know the cool places to go. ;)

To me, the missing piece of the puzzle is reyes. Yet we have to get rid of him because he doesn't want to adapt, and then may or may not replace him. With the replacement probably being less suited to the role.

Aren't there people you can hire who help people adjust to a new environment?

GoonerMan - you can make it happen this weekend!

Instruct the fans when they enter that after the valencia game on sunday, when the players get ready to leave the field, the fans have to storm the pitch, and we will just take david villa by force.

edit: skizz, can you insert the commas' in the thread title, so it at least reads better? its supposed to be,

I agree with the LW need.

In the 4-4-2 you have 4 strikers for 2 spots, but none of those strikers can move back to play wide in the 4-5-1 (assuming RVP is your 1 up front), is TR is hurt.

It would be better to get another proven winger versus hoping that EDS can fit in.

Gilberto to miss season start (http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?HLID=478947&CPID=8&title=Gilberto+to+miss+season+start&lid=&channel=Football_Home&f=rss&clid=3)

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that defensive midfielder Gilberto Silva will miss the start of the season.
The Brazilian is currently on holiday following his Copa America success and returns to training on 7th August.
The Gunners kick-off their Premier League campaign at home to Fulham on 12th August but it is doubtful that Gilberto will be anywhere near match-fit.
Gilberto is seen as the most likely candidate to be awarded the captain's armband following Thierry Henry's departure despite Wenger hinting (http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=478880&CPID=8&clid=3&lid=&title=Wenger:+Gallas+could+be+captain) that William Gallas is in contention.
"He will miss the start. He is on a three-week holiday and is back August 7," Wenger told The Sun
Wenger also allayed any fears over Tomas Rosicky's fitness after the playmaker limped off just 30 minutes into the friendly against Salzburg
"We don't think it is serious. He had a tight hamstring and we did not want to take a gamble," Wenger explained to Arsenal TV Online.

Randall targets Arsenal place (http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?HLID=479014&CPID=8&title=Randall+targets+Arsenal+place&lid=&channel=Football_Home&f=rss&clid=3)

Mark Randall is hoping to break into the Arsenal side this season but admits he could also be loaned out for a spell.
The promising midfielder signed a professional contract with The Gunners midway through last season and featured twice in the Carling Cup.
The 17-year-old was included in the pre-season tour of Austria and is now looking to step up and make a name for himself in the Premier League.
Randall believes he will get opportunities to play if he works hard enough but is also ready to go out on loan if Arsene Wenger decides he needs more regular action.
He told the club's official website: "Hopefully I will get a run-out in the Premier League this season but maybe I will go out on loan. I don't know yet.
"But as a youngster I feel if you are good enough then you will get your chance here. The boss has shown that in the past."
Armand Traore was the youngest player on Arsenal's trip to Austria but Randall, older by just ten days, was thrilled to join the senior squad.
"The first team come to Austria every season and a lot of young players want to be part of the tour," he explained.
"Training with them is a lot sharper. Having such good players around you all the time makes it a lot easier both for yourself and your team-mates.
"There is also a great spirit around the squad at the moment and it was great to be part of that."

Bent told Hotspur magazine: 'Spurs are a club that are definitely going forward. 'You only have to look at their consecutive fifth place finishes in the past two years to see that.

HAHAHAHAHAA!!!!! I love sp*rs. i mean who else could get excited about 5th place?

but it gets better!!!

'For me, there was no other place to go. I believe Spurs have a real opportunity to break into the top four now and I think we can be one of the biggest clubs in Europe. 'There's no reason why we can't catch the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.'

this is soo funny, just thought i'd cheer people up with the constant doom and gloom motif we seem to love on the transfer thread.

ps, i think we are in real good shape next year

our midfield is solid, our defense is veteran and proven, and our strike force has experience and is rested.

Well, just playing devil's advocate, every team not in the big 4 would be happy with a fifth place finish. And Bent has never finished so high himself.

I'm a Pittsburg Pirates fan, I'd be really happy with even a .500 record AFTER the all-star break.

From the Randall article, ""But as a youngster I feel if you are good enough then you will get your chance here. The boss has shown that in the past."

This is why I am not a huge fan of constantly bringing in established players. We will keep attracting quality youngsters if our reputation is maintained as being a big club where you can grow into the starting XI.
