This question was asked to me by my SRA awhile back, and for some reason I just remembered it. Figured I'd post it here and generate some answers:

What are the reasons that you (the referee) can stop play?

I don't remember how many he said there were...7 maybe? The ones I can think of are:

1. Foul
2. Misconduct
3. Outside interference
4. Ball completely out of play
5. Ball deflates

6. Serious injury
7. Broken/displaced crossbar

Lightning in surrounding area.

Field becomes progressively unplayable (i.e. heavy rains cause massive puddles, etc.)
