Yes. The name comes from the town pilsen which is now in the Czech Republic but was once german.
Do you know "weissbier"? Its the beer they are used to drink in Bavaria. It smells not bitter like "Pilsner" but more sweet.

Nazis were usually no Brewery-masters.
Maybe you know that there are alot of normal germans who imigrated to Brazil just the same like they did in the US.
Do you want to tell me that Gisele Bündchen is a Nazi-daughter?
Impossible. :D

Good point. I wasn't trying to insinuate that all or even most Germans in Sudamerica were nazis. Whatever there ideology, they do bre good beer and produce fine lookin beeyatches like Gisele.

Yo no tomo cerveza pero me parece que la mejor cerveza en Chile es la ESCUDO. La cerveza CRISTAL también es bastante conocida... pero los entendidos se quedan con la ESCUDO.

Gotta love those stereotypes that Yanks print on other nations, peoples, don't ya? ;)
One that travels to a city like Blumenau would initially think that the southern states are probably post-war nazi strongholds in Brazil, but it wouldn't resist 2 days after meeting such welcoming and hospitable people.

There are several German sounding or related breweries in Brazil - Bavaria, Kaiser, Skol - but from what I've tasted they come nowhere close to the real deal found in Deutscheland. The beer here in Brazil has been one of my few disappointments, not that I don't drink plenty of it regardless. The other disclaimer is that I'm kind of a beer snob.
Here in Bahia, I would rank Bohemia as the best, followed by Skol (Skol is the one most commonly served in restaurants, and the beer most consumed at O Bahia matches). The rest you can take your pick from - Brahma, Bavaria, Pecaschin. Most of them are all light pilsners or lagers that can only be served cold to make up for lack of flavor, much like Budweiser but with less alcohol. The only imported beer I've really seen is Heineken, which has much to be desired. Bottom line is that when it's as hot and sunny as it is here, even in winter, cold beer isn't a bad thing regardless of brands.
My Brazilian friends tell me that the quality of any of the national brands depends on the city it's served, and the water used in brewing it. For example, Brahma in Rio is supposed to be very good, but here in Salvador isn't so great. Maybe MIGkiller can set me straight on this.
I'm a dark beer fan and would kill to find an Irish pub with Guiness on tap, but haven't had such luck so far. Maybe when I visit Rio or Sao Paulo I can find a better variety of beers?
