Why is Bruce Arena so hot on Bobby Convey? I give the kid credit for having guts and confidence but he hardly ever completes a pass. Also Convey scoring touch is a bit suspect because I have seen him screw up many open goals.

Convey will be like JOB and Reyna, but hopefully with better health. He is a great leader and knows how to play the game from a tactical stand point. He has problems finishing, but Clint and Landon have the same problem sometimes. Convey does have great field vision and he is only 20, so touch stuff like that will hopefully improve with age and expierence. And I one final thing, you can teach touch and finishing, you can't teach heart. To see this kids heart, you only need to look at the game he played against Dallas back on May 31st. He if it wasn't for a great stop by the Dallas keeper and a crap penalty call for Dallas, Convey would have willed his team to a win.

These is where the mediocrity of MLS coaching department is reflected, MLS should be the place where all this kids hone their skills to perfection....But what am I asking?... many of these MLS coaches thrive on mediocrity

??? You mean you can run behind a player into the box, trip and fall on his legs, and that's NOT a penalty?
Convey had one of his best games as an attacking mid that night though, I do agree.

It was a penalty but it was perhaps the flukiest penalty I've ever seen. I somehow knew that Vaca was gonna be fouled there, unfortunately is was from the flailing body of Earnie Stewart after he tripped over his own two feet. (maybe he tripped over something else but it has a more dramatic effect this way :))

LIKE JOB? you gotta to be kidding hes more like heydude with better dribbling skills. players who run fas and have heart but no touch or finishing are a dime a dozen in the US(heck maybe a nickel)he doesnt even score in MLS

Convey can play all of the midfield spots as well as left back. So can JOB. They both see the field well and are great with the ball at their feet. And as for his out put in the MLS, get a real coach in DC and see what happens.

A valid point if you remember that youth offers the possibility of improvement, not a garuntee.

Of course he sees the field, after all, he's standing on it.
Seriously, I think Convey is the kind of guy that people want to see succeed so badly that they "discover" intangible qualities that he doesn't really possess yet.
Sure he's only 20 so he has a shot at stepping up several levels. So does, say, Devin Barclay....

So if Convey has NO touch, who in American soccer has good touch on the ball? Certainly not anybody on the ConFed Cup squad with the exception of Donovan and perhaps Martino.

I say if you want him to work on his fininshing and touch then send him overseas........
Landon seemed to have a better finish when he was over in Germany and came to the Nats..
