I think this way you should have 16 equal, great football leagues. That way every club in every country can reach a high quality league and earn money from worldwide TV-renevues and be watched by international scouts. Let the best 18 clubs of the 16 zones form a international league. Below that, the national leagues will stay and the best clubs of those leagues can try to reach the international league. Above the 16 international leagues, you can have a big World Cup for clubs tournament. The champions and the runner-ups can qualify, so you have a 32 teams tournament. It can be like the UEFA Champions League with poules and knock-out rounds. I should really love those great, strong leagues. Travelling costs can be high, but the leagues can earn it back because the leagues are all from a high quality with good TV-contracts, sponsoring and scouting.

North European League?

The Bundesliga doesn't need those scandinavian crap teams.

FC Kopenhagen is the only decent team they have.

Except the majority of clubs that are thrown into the lower divisions, who will earn less money, have less support and less good players.

And why does Japan get a league to itself, but 2/3 of Africa only have one league? This idea is ********ing diabolical.

Well, what do you think should be better? Should leagues merge more, and if so, which leagues should and which shouldn't?

And Japan is a high populated first world country were football is a big sport, and most of those African countries are very poor, have few professional football teams and aren't as densily populated as Japan.

This idea is idiotic in the extreme.

In a world without historical, political, or social relevance, this is a good idea.

But the truth is it won't happen, so it's an exercise in futility.

The thing I find funny is that people are damning this without explanation.

For instance, if the Scandinavian teams are crap, then obviously the league would mostly be made up of German teams, right?

Have you got a link?

Ok Skyotyk here's just a few reasons why this is idea is dumb.

1. It is a Logistical nightmare, some leagues in Europe have thousands of teams, there is no way of merging leagues fairley.

2. Travel costs, I'll be damned if I had to travel to the south of England or buttf*ck Ireland every other week. It's expensive enough as it is. It will kill clubs off.

3. It's just all round dumb, what's the reason for it? There is already the Champ. League and the UEFA Cup for the big clubs to try their luck against foreign opposition. Leave the rest of us alone.

4. It fosters the fat lazy armchair fan who would rather buy a Sky package than bother to ever attend a game.

There are some disadvantages indeed. But UEFA Cup/CL isn't the same as a league. Travel coasts are high, but I already told that. But if you want more equal leagues, it just has to be. What about the Russian league? Luch Vladikavkaz has to travel 8 000 miles for most of the games. That's ofcourse ridiculous, but if they can travel 8 000 miles every 2 weeks, why can't Scottisch clubs fly a few miles to England? And these leagues doesn't mean other clubs disappear or something, they just play a division lower where they belong if they aren't good enough for the highest level. To reach the English highest level you must be a damn good club. To reach the Luxemburg or Finnish highest level, you can be an amateur club. And a club in San Marino or Malta is doomed to stay in an amateur league. It's just not fair. And for your first point: It's not about thousands of teams. Only the 18 best of the zones will qualify for the international leagues, the rest just stays where they play. The best clubs from national divisions can qualify through a knock-out system for the international league. There is indeed a problem of countries that merge that have political problems with eachother, like Ethiopia and Djibouti and like Pakistan and India. It doesn't mean it's impossible, it's just a big rivalry. Those teams already play eachother in Asian/African tournaments. Galatasaray/Fenerbahce is also almost war, they need a lot of police protection. That doesn't mean you should ban those games.

And if clubs don't want to promote because they have to travel to much, they don't HAVE to. There will be a lot of other clubs interested.

African countries are poor, so make them fly thousands of miles to get to domestic games?

And what's the betting this thread was just started because he wants PSV to be in a bigger league? In which case I propose a new league covering Spain, Italy, Brazil and Bolton.

Goodness me. I thought the thread with 6 teams per group in the World Cup was really bad and now this thread. :o

It's a great idea and in addition many club teams are very "international" nowadays, so I doubt that there would be any objections solely for nationalistic/patriotic reasons.
Perhaps there could be 4 leagues in Africa - North African, West African, Central & East African, and Southern African.

Merge J-LEAGUE with EPL or BUNDESLIGA :D. It is just the joke, but of misfortune J-LEAGUE needs rivals of elite level. That is why JAPAN cannot get more good in the WC because of no rivals at home.

You've been given plenty of arguments, you just won't listen to them. Instead of trying to get away from your league, why not think of ways to make it more competitive?
