After much debate and discussion. The new Chivas USA supporter group is here.

...Los San Patricios are here!!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the history of the St. Patrick's Brigade, a band of 800 union soldiers of Irish, German, Scottish and European descent deserted to fight alongside the Mexcians during the Mexican-American War. These soldiers were disatisfied with the American army treatment of Mexican citizens, particulary priests and children. Fearing they would never be accpeted as true Americans, these men stood by their beliefs and religious convictions and fought for freedom and sovereignty.

PERSONALLY, I would "white" it up a bit to St. Patrick's Brigade. Giving a Spanish name doesn't really differentiate it much from the Legion, IMO.
Though love the story behind it, its fitting

Don't worry, St. Patrick's Battalion or Los San Patricios, the group is here. Here's a pick from the bagpipe group that perfroms every year to honor the "white" soldiers in Churubusco, Mexcio.

I was hoping this would be a new transfer thread...I agree with mobile...Needs more English in the name for wider appeal.
Either way, that's a great name and theme for a new supporter's group. I'd gladly join it, as long as we don't go overboard with the green and cloves. Haha.

Pretty bad-ass. I'm all for it.
But it's true - a more "Anglo-friendly" name would help differentiate it.

Very interesting but it seems a bit controversial. We would be naming ourselves after a group of soldiers who were hung for treason and sedition against the United States. This sounds more anti-american and a bit devisive than anything else.
On the other end, the Mexican-American War is a dark stain in our nations history. A classic case of early American Imperialism that was illegal and criminal at best. Some would say that these guys were fighting for a peoples' freedom and value of faith over nationalism. As a German-American and a Catholic, I am intrigued.
As you can tell I am on the fence with this idea.

i like the idea and at first i thought it was rather genius, but are we really aiming for such a segregated atmosphere at our games?

It has come to my attention that the name of the new group is not "white" enough. (to use some other poster's words)
Actually, The new name is The San Patrick's Battalion NOT Los San Patricios
I apologize for that.
Also, it should be known that we are part of Legion 1908.
Thank and be sure to contact me if you are intersted in joining.

Ok, so here are my thoughts on this...
When I first read about it, I thought it sounded awesome. I love the historical element to the name/group and the idea of standing up for your beliefs and fighting injustice was a great tie-in.
Then I read a little more and the idea of defectors/traitors, etc. kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, these guys were court-martialled, after all.
Then, it set in on me the great parallels between the St. Paddy's Battalion and the Chivas USA fans:
From the Saint Patrick's Battalion wiki:
Some historians characterize the members of the Saint Patrick's Battalion as malcontents who weren't happy with their lot. Under this characterization, members switched sides for higher wages and land grants...
Well, I for one am a football fan who moved to LA and was unhappy with the Galaxy. I went to a bunch of games, was bored out of my mind, and went to a few Chivas games in the hopes of better entertainment. I got it. The team played better football, was more entertaining, and the fans were more passionate. I switched sides, not for higher wages, but for higher quality football.
Soon after enlisting in the US army the San Patricios began to see they were fighting on the side on Injustice. They saw the United States carrying out a huge, greedy and cruel land grab, reminiscent of the English occupation of Ireland. The killing, looting, rape and senseless destroying of Mexican civilian property reminded them of the British injustice back in Ireland.
Those who arrived in the United States faced bigoted campaigns, similar to today's reactionary immigrant bashing. Irish immigrants faced police violence and murder, like many oppressed immigrants today.
While I'm certainly not trying to get on my political high-horse, and I would never argue that the Galaxy is any sort of racist, cruel institution, I do like the fact that there is a huge cultural meshing @ Chivas USA games, and want to help facilitate that. I want the immigrant communities (of which there are MANY in Los Angeles) and the football-loving whiteboys like myself to come together, and this sounds like a good way to do it. I've been to many Chivas games, tailgated in the parking lot, and while I've certainly never felt any bit of unwelcome-ness, there is the perception that a white fan at the games is either A.) a fan the opposing team or B.) just at the game because you got free tickets and is not really a Chivas USA fan. Most people give me a smile when they see me stand up and yell for the Goats, but they're certainly surprised to see how passionate I am for the Red & White.
This supporters group will hopefully shed light on the fact that Chivas USA has fans from all walks of life - we're not just Chivas de Guad fans who are settling for an MLS team (I'm not even a fan of Chivas de Guad). Chivas USA is for everyone and hopefully the San Patrick's Battalion will help illustrate that.
Alright, enough rambling. I think this is a cool idea and I'm excited to see it get going. Now, let's get a DP and sign Riquelme.

Jajajaja. Love it! Kudos to y'all.
St. Patrick's Batallion is not that well know in the US (for some obvious reasons), but in Mexico, this group of men are held in high regard and that's why the Irish have a special place en el corazón mexicano.
Whenever a red-haired mexican kid appears, a mexican will always say "Well. I think the St. Patrick's Batallion passed through his town." :D

You know what will be a great idea, if St Patricks Batallion will go to Guadalajara and root next to La Legion 1908 in a chivas game. It will be awsome and Mexicans will love the Batallion, you guys will be like gods for a day.

Would you guys be sitting next to La Legion or on the other side? I live in the Bay Area and it be great if next year my Chivas will be playing over here and you guys could make it up. This supporters club is the best idea because it will show the whole league how powereful Chivas USA is.

To the best of my knowledge, we WILL NOT be directly next to La Legion but closer to Section 127.
This is all new and evolving everyday.
