View Full Version : One Voice?

I generally stand about 10 rows back, just at the cusp of the Riders and Rev Army sections and I noticed that the two groups were not always in synch. Sometimes one group would start a song/cheer and the other would start a different one, or have the "timing be off".
In many other stadia -- in Europe and in the US (Chicago, for one) -- there are one or two people who will stand, face the rest of the crowd with a megaphone in hand, and get people started in unison.
It's sometimes hard for us in the Fort to know whether we are being heard elsewhere in the stadium, since the sound doesn't really travel that well from the open end. I've heard friends who are seated elsewhere, that we are MUCH more effective when we sing with one voice.
Megaphones, anyone?

Agreed, an S8 buddy of mine hates him. Says he's the most arrogant guy he knows.

Those of the non-powered variety should be fine, and the idea's been suggested, but who'd be willing to be a chant leader?

Ed, myself and a couple of others already start most of the chants. I know speaking for myself and Ed, we turn around when we start the chants so people know which ones we're doing and where we are in it.

I completely agree with this... I know that some guys in the fort do try their best to turn around but still if there was some type of megaphone and a 'leader' people would be much more inclined to follow his lead. And even the fact that he is turned around temporarily looking back and speaking loudly (megaphone) the people behind will be more open to follow. Even the newbies if their embarrassed or dont feel right willl get into it if everyone else is doing it, u know its one of those things. It there is clear leader all of those (Rev Army, Midnight Riders and especially the unaffilliated) will follow him
I was abroad in Milan last year and I went to a bunch of inter and ac games and the megaphones worked great there. I was not affliliated with any of the groups, speak very little Italian but even I could join in. And its not even like these guys would just start chants with the megaphones they would act as like some sort of hype man or like promo guy at a club. Like in between cheers they would just preach on... I know it sounds funny but hey it works. When im sitting in the Milan curva and they tell me how much I hate Juve and Inter u tend to learn the passion.
And, as for the Morgue and others around they will better here everyone.
I was like 15 rows back and I had troble hearing the chants till we caught on like midway thru them...
And as for the chicago guy being arrogant, it takes an arrogant SOB to do it so power to him. Section 8 is great, and he has a part to do with it

and this has cut down on the confusion...still work to be done but we are getting there

The problem with last week is that myself, Sean, Fran, Joe (SHUT UP JOE!) we were farther back than normal this time so there was this big gap between us. Chris pointed this out to me during the match. Rev Army was way far back.
We're getting better, though.
I don't want to do that megaphone thing...but I could be persuaded. Think of the person right behind you and I doubt security would let it in.

yeah I think we were later than usual because you were busy scrambling around getting streamers handed out haha.
but seriously, we usually do a decent job when we are in the middle of it all, but like you said we were a little further back than usual (you can see better from their as well, but thats a different story...) so it was tougher to hear when things got started.
