I love the golden goal in tournament finals. An exciting if bittersweet final. Great to see Henry bring it home.

Henry was brilliant. Good to see him score the ugly goal when it was needed.

Brilliant might be a bit strong as he missed an open goal about six yards out, though his one-time shot went about "two centimeters" wide, as the Univision commentators kept saying.

I thought his most inspired play was in the first half when he flicked over the defender to himself and then one-timed cross to an on-rushing Cisse, who headed just wide. That was brilliant.

Other thoughts...

Wiltord played horribly, although he was out left.

Pires had a couple of nice touches when he came into the game.

Even though Viera didn't play in the tournament, I forget how fortunate we are to have Viera/Pires/Henry on the same pitch every game.

I logged in here intending to say exactly what you had already said!
Wiltord was awful, I think he only once went past a player and the his cross was awful.
otherwise each time he got the ball he did one of his trademark tanker turns, (picture a huge track turning round very slowly) and slowed the game down.
If we want to buy a player for a cash + Player deal, unload wiltord, but hold on to Franny and Jermaine they have potential.

Was anyone as surprised as I was to see Henry score a goal in a cup final?

Those close calls certainly had a familiar feel. It was funny to see it bounce off his knee and in as if by sheer force of will.

Is it only UEFA that has reneged the golden goal, but it remains for FIFA competitions? I hate it for league matches (my Metros lost on one Saturday), but it brought a nice sense of finality Sunday. More time after Henry scored would have been superfluous.

I found the subdued reaction of the victors to be most tasteful and honorable, given the circumstances.
