Francescoli was a number 10. It's good to see that Arsenio Erico gets a mention. Paraguay's best player before the likes of Romerito, Cabanas and Chilavert came on the scene.

I'm a bit surprised that Bobby Charlton and Ruud Van Nistelrooy didn't make the initial list!

Rivaldo, Henry, Ibrahimovic, Charlton are not "9"s. They are midfielders or attacking midfielders. A "9" has to mostly rely on midfielders to create chances for them to score and play in the last 1/3rd or 1/4th of the pitch.

Basically ...

- You have your classic box players: RVN, Muller, Van Basten, Trezeguet.
- And your classic run into passes or at defenders (dribble) players: Ronaldo, Romario, Etoo, Inzagui.

Ronaldo and Romario could also create plays by taking on defenders, but they mainly relied on feeds from the midfield via through passes and defender isolation.

Henry exhibits some characteristics of a number 9, but at Arsenal, his position was mainly on the left side of the pitch. He was a winger/attacking midfielder that had a tendency to go towards the middle and shoot. He was as much a play maker as he was a scorer.

For a #9, scoring goals has to be the most crucial aspect and I can't see how anyone wouldn't rank Gerd Müller first.

1) Gerd 'Der Bomber' Muller - His place is pretty much unquestionable.

2) Eusebio - He was a rare physical specimen that regularly won matches by himself. If not for his injury, he would of been much closer to Muller.

3) Ronaldo - O Fenemono of 96-98 was literally unbelievable. The fact that he racked up great numbers as a 'pure' striker after his 'problems' is a testament to his outstanding ability.

4) Romario - Simply for the fact that he scored so many goals in such a seemingly lazy way. He was pure brilliance.

5) Van Basten - One of the most complete #9 of all times. If not for his 'no show' at WC '90 and EC '92, he would of placed higher than Romario.

Ibra is a number 10. He just has a very good scoring rate.

Ibra doesn't play as a 10, he's definetely a 9! For sure more than Henry or Romário who were both cited by other people here.
Maybe he coul be a 9,5 but I think he's better put with 9s.

My 9s, only those I watched playing, are Ronaldo (I don't consider Romário a 9), Batistuta and maybe Van Basten. these ones will become legends for the future.

If there was 9.5 category, Ibra would fit in there but he is definitely a number 10. Cruz, Crespo and Suazo are the number 9s at Inter and Ibra is the number 10. His type of game of a number 10 but like I said before, he has the scoring rate of a number 9.

What are you talking about ??? Romario is your sterotypical 9 in every way.
