unlike most of you....you cannot account for what exactly happened outside GATE 4 after Chile, Argentina. you also cannot account for being on field level and hearing and seeing what was about to transpire.
In my Opinion...the referee was not bought. and from my angle on the pitch...the first red card was fully deserved as he did look to kick the ball at the player and also looked to try and step on him..
NONE-THE-LESS: both teams are known for diving all over the pitch... from my eyes. CHILE dove just as much as the Argentines, it just so happens Argentina has a better drama coach.
Chile also has the reputation of being scrappy....lets not forget how the portuguese screwup started with a chilean trying to rub his knee into the fallen portuguese player. From my angle on the field....thats exactly what it looked like hence why Mano did what he did. im sure the officials were told to keep an eye out for that.
Regardless of how bad the officiated was, and it was bad dont get me wrong, but what occurred after the game outside gate 4 falls solely on the CHILEAN PLAYERS.
as us accredited media waited to be escorted out of the mixed zone (where players walk out of the stadium and stop for interviews) we were stopped and could not move...this was about 1020-1045 i'd say....
we tried to make our way back to the media centre but again, we were stopped by security guard rails.
this is where it gets interesting....i had the unfortunate position of being pinned up against the guardrail by morons known as the Chilean Media (their media pass tells me exactly who they were). u could see some of what was happening with some of the players and some obstructed.
I clearly saw players fight with police after throwing parts of their bus at our LAW ENFORCEMENT. I also saw one player strike an officer at which time he looked to be taken down by a few officers.....again some of my view was obstructed by Security Members. i did not see the taser but was told by several other eye witnesses.
I also saw about 6-10 players in cuffs escorted back into the stadium. Among those, Vidal and Vidangossy, their hair giving them away.
In all of this....i was unable to reach into my backpack and grab my camera...Chilean media acted like rabid animals and if it wasnt for Security i may have even been squashed. the constant taunting of the media was also a farce.
In the end, from my own eyes, the Chileans got what they deserved. Im not sure how Chilean police act, but here in the t-dot our cops hit back when you hit them and rightly so!
for any of u who bash the Toronto Police, next time u need something found or some help in whatever situation they would normally handle....perhaps you should think again. They work extremely hard for what they do and to be mocked and ridiculed is certainly uncalled for.
i can go on and on with this subject. but from a first hand account.
the Chilean players got what they deserved.

This is obviously an emotional issue and strikes at a lot of hot buttons. Nevertheless, keep it civil or don't post.

Just to bring things to the game for a moment.
Where were you when the first red was given?
Because, I get the feeling from your accounts that you had an obstructed view. I did not. I sat in the east grandstand in the section directly in front of the incident. And I must say, not only me (who was a neutral fan), but other neutral fans, Chileans, and even some Argentinians did not believe it was a red and were shocked to see it come out. At most a Yellow.
You should of seen the reaction form everyone in the are who where right in front of it. Everybody saw it as a botched call. He kicked at the ball, which the argentinian pull away from Mano and into his body. After the missed swipe the Argentinian grabbed his face. If Meda got thered then the Argentinian should have been kicked out also.
And also as you stated, it is your opinion. Don't mean we have to agree with you.

In other words, you saw the fight, you didn't actually see what CAUSED the fight. The police says it was the players' fault, the Chileans say it was the police's fault. Who to believe?
I don't know about you, but being Southamerican, I've seen and heard about all kinds of fights around football: players v players, players v refs, fans v players, fans v refs, police v fans, even police v players inside the field; but then you hear alegations of tasing, clubing and pepper spraying players because they wanted to greet their fans?

Put it this way. If our junior hockey players had behaved like the Chileans, we would not be defending them. We would be crucifying them for embarassing our country.
We love having visitors to our country. We just ask them to behave.

Maybe therein lies your problem as a human.
The Police are not 100% innocent in this. Blame goes to everyone in this.
But you seem to forget that through virtually every media account we have of this incident, it was 1 player being held and tasered by a group of police officers while most of the players were still on the bus. Do you not see how utterly ********en stupid the police look in that? Did not that esculate the situation. A blind bat could see that it did.

Cardinal rule in this country: If you hit a policeman, you are going to get hammered. It does not matter who you are. Our police may not be perfect, but they had no axe to grind last night. They don't go out the way to beat people up but they will respond with overwhelming force to protect themselves and their fellow officers if one of them is attacked.
Considering that they put their lives on the line to protect you and me, that is just fine. That is the way it has been in this country since its formation and that is also fine with me. If you have a problem with that, as a human, (whatever that means), perhaps you should move to Chile. Spend a couple of years there and tell us if you think the Chilean police have the same respect for the rule of law and personal liberty that our police have.

Whatever that means is you act like a self centre pompous ass with no backbone. If you saw your friend or teamates get the shit kicked out him for apparently no reason, or even a minor thing, would you not run to their defense? By your arrogant answer you would turtle like the coward you are and run the other way. I am not saying the Chileans are innocent in this, but spare me the speech that our police are angels.
You don't get it. The whole thing escalated because of X amount of police (and security) and taser against one 5 ft 6" TEENAGER. The police are to blame as much as the players.
Oh and another thing. Nice to see you have been brainwashed into believing everything you read/beleive in western media. I love this country dearly and cherish how we live here, but not for a second do I believe that people are not in the background pulling strings and putting spins on things to advance their own views and causes.

all the information from the players side will come out in the next day or two.
this evening, exclusivity was granted to myself as well as another member of the Canadian media to a few of the chilean players. their opinions on the incident will be heard.
for the one who asked...i stand on the goaline, usually at the north end but for the Chile game i stood at the south end of the stadium...pretty much at the corner flag but i do move around.
at the first red card i was looking straight down the line, basically the view of the linesmen would have had as well as most of what the referee would have seen. to me, it looked pretty bad.
Reports of who was and who wasnt tasered has been answered...what happened to the players when they were escorted back into the dressing room was also addressed.
one player who wont be named at this time simply put it.... 'non me gusto la policía'
its an interesting story...
but for the reports of a gas bomb or tear gas being sprayed into the bus...NOT TRUE. the rest will come out shortly.

So then your view wasn't the greatest being on such an angle.
The ref's angle was not good to make such a harsh call because the players back was facing him. The linesman was closer as the incident happened on the north end of mid field. It looked worse form other angles than it really was. The whole east stand in that area (~2,500) were amazed at the call.

What does that mean?

I don't think any of us can make any claim with regards to the events that actually unfolded without the facts and until then, all commentary is simply conjecture. Please do not confuse the two and try not to assume that because you've seen it in the media that it's true. The story has already changed about 4 or 5 times with the only real consistent detail being that of an altercation between the players and the police. Pretty vague isn't it and until the report is finalized, it should remain so.

let's deal the game and post game behaviour seperately...
The theatrics of the players is a problem for FIFA and game officials to solve.
Everyone second guessing what the referee should or shouldn't have called is ridiculous ...the fans in their thousands never miss a call and the TV cameras with slow-mo and multi angles never get it wrong...the ref and his linesmen have only three pairs of eyes and cannot possibly catch every foul and dive.
The Chilean team needs to be punished by FIFA for their post game antics, it's absolutely unacceptable.
Assaulting the police in any country is not a smart idea, if anything T.O. police reactions were mild compared to what Chilean police would have dished out.
Many Chilean fans at the game were out of control if they want to riot go back to Chile, the culture of fan violence at sporting events isn't acceptable here. It's only a game, you lose you go home and have a beverage; throwing your beverage at the officials and police isn't permitted.
If had any criticism it would be that the T.O. Police had no idea what could happen and were caught of guard by the fans and players they didn't know how to respond. A visit to a few european football venues by the TO police would have helped them prepare and avoid riots.

If you touch a policeofficer in any way during a heated situation, you are asking for trouble.
I often see players touching referees during the game . . but he walks away. NOT an officer, they would likley slam you to the ground, and rightfully so.
