At Stade de France, in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, a moment of silence was held before France's game with Turkey. An announcement of Foe's death was made over the public address system in French, English and Turkish and the player's picture was displayed on the video boards.

With some of the players bowing their heads, about 40 seconds of silence was observed. A few of the Turkish fans shouted as French fans tried to quiet them.

Admittidly, it was just a few, I sure the vast majority of Turkish fans do not approve of their actions, but still...

Anyone willing to defend them?

I have no problem with Turks as a whole, of course, but people who are as disrespectful as that are not much better than pedophiles, in my eyes.

Nope.

They are the worst.uefa should really step in and do something--the turkish stadiums are surrounded with cages and barbed wire so that tells you something about them.......

i dont know what UEFA is waiting for

I don't know but there's something about their temper that must be addressed immediately. Not only the fans but the players too. Do you remember the last Turkey match where there wasn't some sort of pitch fight?

Granted, this isn't as bad as hooligan violence, but FIFA needs to step in and do something about it. First, the whistling during national anthems, now this. Maybe the Turks need to play in an empty stadium a couple of times to teach their fans some manners.

Absolutely agree with those posters calling for FIFA to step in. Unfortunately the only action that could be severe enough to get the fans to stop would be to deny the Turkish team entrance to coming tourneys or force them to play "closed" quaulifiers.

It may take a while but eventually the fans will get the hint.

It is a disgrace to the game and a disgrace to their country.

For the sake of the English players' health I wouldn't want that to happen...:D

it is not suprising the Turks also were the ones who began booing the US national anthem. what a disgrace, footbal is a game and all politics and hatred should be put aside during such times.

One could imagine what the Turks would be doing if it was a US player that died!

The fans in the US-Turkey game were booing after Turkey's athem being played right before the US's, was cut 2/3 of the way through by the French organizers. That's what they were booing at. The aggrevated fans kept booing right into the US anthem being played. I guess one could make the case that they could have ceased their protest once the US anthem started. But if anyone is looking for a political connatation it has nothing to do with the US, and probably has everything to do with the way they get treated as immigrants in France.

They did that win Colombia's national anthem, maybe Cameroon's too, and I'm not sure but I think Japans was cut short too. I don't blame French organizers for that, they are doing (I hope they are) the best they can. But they should try to "study" what they are gonna present from the other countries, at least to put on a more professional event.

I hate to say it but this doesn't surprise me. I really hate the Turks. They have no class and have shown this time and time again. I'm surprised FIFA and UEFA haven't banned Turkey (and Turkish Clubs) from international competition yet....it's only a matter of time until their actions cause events far worse.

I read the whole article whose link you've posted above. Where does it say that some Turkish fans shouted during the moment of silence and the French tried to quiten them?

It's quite amusing that one "moderator" starts the bigotry and the other (PZ who's posted above) weighs in with his own unique opinions on another race.

As Agent Powers Sr. once said: "I hate two kinds of people on this earth. Those who are intolerant and show bigotry towards others .... and the Dutch."

Is it possible the article was changed? It looks like the moderator took a quote. Maybe they deleted that line and re-posted the article.

Class and Turks do not belong in the same sentance.

No doubt those that disturbed the minute of silence are reprehensible but lets not make broad sweeping generalizations concerning the Turkish people. A few morons at best.

It is very cliche.

Yes, this is not the same as the original, it's been up-dated.

I am sorry to hear that, but not all of us are the same.

We are terribly sorry for Foe and his family.

How can a moderator post something like this?
